A lone gray squirrel was happily chewing on an acorn when it caught the familiar scent of a dog nearby. Looking up from its food, it could see a fluffy white canine running towards their location. A second later, the air was filled with the scream of a squirrel as the rodent ran for its life towards a birch tree. Thinking it was losing the dog, it was about to climb up the tree trunk when something sharp dug into its side. Then its world faded to black...
Panting, Gidget slowed down to a trot when she saw that Tiberius had caught the squirrel. She sat down and began licking her paw. Just then, she heard the old hawk ask her, "Uh... Gidget? Do you want a bite?" Stopping in midlick, she looked over at her friend and the dead squirrel. Deciding not to be rude, she put her tongue back in her mouth as she replied back, "Yeah, sure." Padding over, the Pomeranian looked down at the rodent. Taking a deep breath, she took a bite.
Chewing thoughtfully with her eyes closed, Gidget was thankful that Tiberius had managed to pluck some of the fur off. Surprisingly, she found herself actually enjoying the taste. The squirrel had a rich nutty flavor with a hint of forest. Of course, there was a bit of blood but the fluffy white Pomeranian ignored that part as she swallowed her bite. Licking her lips, she opened her sky blue eyes. Smiling softly at Tiberius, Gidget commented quietly, "That was really good. Thank you."
"Really?" Tiberius responded, surprised. Gidget giggled softly when she saw his reaction. Bowing his head, the old hawk pointed out quietly, "If you want more, you can have more."
"No, you're the one who's hungry," Gidget recalled.
"No, I insist," both Gidget and Tiberius said at the same time. Simultaneously, they thought better than to argue with each other. Instead, they decided to listen to their friend and lowered their heads, accidently bumping into each other. "Oops..." Gidget mumbled, feeling a little embarrassed. Rubbing his forehead, Tiberius remarked, "Guess there's not enough space for two heads there, huh?" Laughing quietly, Gidget reached up and gave his forehead a gentle lick, causing the hawk's tail to fan out.
"Of all the times, why now?" Tiberius muttered, glowering at his own tail. Smiling softly, Gidget questioned the hawk, "Need any help?" Her friend shook his head, adding on, "I think I can handle it... hopefully." Patting him on the shoulder gently, she informed him, "Give me a call if you need help. I'm just gonna be exploring over here." Watching Gidget pad off into the distance, Tiberius could feel his heart pick up the pace.
