Chapter Twenty-seven: The Act of Improper Evasion..
"David.. ", the silent name escaped my unguarded mouth.
He filled the whole of the room with his supercilious presence that my once remarkably big room became a ready-to-eat container. If Seth were here too, then it would have been so hard to breathe.
"What.. How..", I swallowed a lump in my throat and held onto the door post tightly to steady myself, lest I slump to my death.
"You really do have poor preferences", the man said as he continued to eye each and every corner of the room with unapparent disgust. "I daresay I am not at all bewildered"
"Apparently, the proof is standing right before me", I eyed him back.
His usual cold expression grew colder but he didn't say anything. It was obvious that he got my intended meaning.
"What are you doing here?! Why don't you just leave me alone?! I need to breathe!", I asked.
For a few days, my mind added.
"I don't believe you can do much of that in this space. But then again, you're.. you", he replied and then added, "I'd rather not have you die under my association because that would attract too much unwanted attention"
I gawked at him. Even the comeback I had hoped to use on him got stuck somewhere.
"Then, just stop this. Whatever this is, please"
"I'm willing to gamble on it that you're a bit smarter than you carry on", he replied, turning his levelling gaze at me. His grey eyes took a horizontal and vertical glance at me. "Well, I happen to know a few famous designers and I don't believe those are in at the moment, if ever"
I didn't immediately get it. It took a moment. My eyes widened on their own accord when I figured out what it was. The other hand that wasn't supporting my weight clutched the cotton piece of clothing I had on tightly to my chest.
The towel!
I shrieked suddenly and bounded into the bathroom to shut the door. Only it didn't shut because there was no door knob.
What kind of shitty motel is this, anyway?!
These people need to be sued and bankrupted!..
Then, I remembered the cost of a room per night and I wasn't so mad with the motel management anymore because they had saved me and my money. Another realisation dawned on me that if at all David, or any other perverted male happened to come into my room, they would have being able to come into the bathroom without any problems, and it would have gone unnoticed by me.
Another horrified shriek escaped my lips.
"Calm yourself, woman", David's voice rang from behind the miserable excuse of a door. I had my whole body on it to keep it closed. "You're undoubtedly the least appealing woman I've seen in a towel. And get appropriate while at it, I have not the whole day"
"Screw you!"
I didn't know if I should be pleased that he didn't find me attractive enough or angry about the condescending comment. I know for sure that the way my breath caught in my chest and the stinging sensation behind my eyelids was evidence that it did hurt. A bit more than it should have in the first place.
"I have allowed you the required amount of respite needed to make a fool of yourself, Seth will see you back. Know that you cannot get away from me so easily. Not until I say so", he left the threat hanging in the air.
The sound of a door opening and rattling in its hinges as it was shut close indicated that David, the oh so gentleman that he was had exited the room for me to change into something more appropriate.
