Henry just wanted the dance class to be over.
"One more time and you're free to go. Ok from singular sensation.
A 5, 6, 7, 8"
Henry watched the unenthusiastic dancing. Henry just wanted to get singing lessons started. At this point he was barely paying attention to the utter butchering of his choreography.
"That was great. Don't for get to practice! I will see all of you next week." The students mumbled goodbyes on their way out of the classroom.
Henry has the studio to himself once again. Ted would be there again and Henry will get to hear him sing under more agreeable circumstances. Henry put on some music for himself while he waited.
"How 'bout a dance
What do you say?"
Ah yes the classic struggle for Henry. This song was written for a female with a far higher voice than Henry's.
"Let's find a spot
And dance the night
Away..." Henry sang along an octave down.
Henry wanted to slow dance but alas no one fucking slow dances anymore.
"Can't beat a band
To lift your spirits high
You look so handsome" Henry's mind went back to Ted singing. Slow dancing with... that wouldn't be so bad.
"How 'bout a dance
Let's make a start
Music like this
Can really throw ya" Henry was almost singing louder than the recording at this point.
"You'll lose the blues
And you may lose your heart."
The door the studio opened. In walked Ted. He looked a little nervous. Henry made Ted nervous. Ha, that's... endearing.
"Hey, Sorry I'm a little early." Ted said sheepishly.
"No need to apologize, Ted." Henry smiled.
"Music like this
Can really throw ya
You'll lose the blues
And you may lose your heart
You'll lose the blues
And you may lose...
Your heart..." the song ended.
"That's a pretty song."
"Yes it is." Henry loved this song. Bonnie and Clyde deserves a longer broadway run. "Do you have a song you want to work on?" Henry had a couple of songs in mind for Ted's voice but it would be nice to let him choose for himself.
"Well I was gonna say Sibella but I like that song." Ted nervously smiled.
"Oh ok," Henry wasn't really expecting that, "that song is written for a more feminine voice but we can go the octave down if you would like." Ted looked lost. Right, he's not a music person.
"Whatever you say." Ted said surprisingly sweetly.
"We could also work on Sibella if you'd like." Henry thought it would be good if they didn't fixate on one specific song. Henry headed over to the piano in the corner of the room. Ted remained where he was awkwardly next to the door. Henry had to gesture Ted over. This made Henry chuckle a little.
"Ok by the next time we do singing lessons if you could get me sheet music that would be terrific." Henry has perfect pitch so he can play the melody from ear but not the entire accompaniment. This piano was also slightly out of tune which always infuriated Henry.
"Sing what I play." Henry started playing vocal warmups on the piano.  Ted sang along. "Ok so the first lyrics are,
How 'bout a dance
What do you say
I've got some moves
That I'd love to show ya." Henry sang the first part of the verse with the piano. Ted looked almost spaced out listening to Henry sing.
"Can you just sing and I can listen?" Ted chuckled a little.
"Nice try but flattery won't work on me, Ted." Henry looked up at Ted who was leaning against the piano.
Ted muttered something to himself.
"What was that."
"Nothing" Ted smiled "innocently" at Henry.
"Sing it with me." Henry got ready to play. Looking up at Ted, Henry saw the faintest blush on Ted's cheek.
"How 'bout a dance
What do you say
I've got some moves
That I'd love to show ya." The two men sang together. It sounded nice. Henry was glad that their voices complimented each other's.
They repeated the Henry sing a line they sing together pattern through the whole song.

"Do you want to do whole song by yourself or do you want me to sing along with you." Henry looked up at Ted. Ted had an almost mischievous look in his eyes. Henry didn't know if he was scared or intrigued.
"I want to sing it by myself." Ted sounds very confident. Confidence looked good on him.
"Ok. Whenever you're ready." Henry waited for Ted to start so he could play along.
"How 'bout a dance
What do you say" Ted began.
"I've got some moves
That I'd love to show ya" Ted leaned up on the piano  The singing felt very directed at him. Henry looked up at Ted. Ted winked at him.
Of course. What was Henry expecting. Henry's face warmed up.
"Let's find a spot
And dance the night
Away..." Ted was very into the song at this point. Henry was 87% sure Ted meant what he was singing.
"How 'bout a dance
It's always fun
Come over here
Let me get to know ya" Ted sat down next to Henry on the piano bench. An people call Henry a ham!
"Can't beat a band
To lift your spirits high
You look so handsome" Ted really played up that last line. It would be unprofessional to stop playing. Henry was pretty sure any professional nature left in this exchange was gone. Henry kept playing.
"How 'bout a dance
Let's make a start
Music like this
Can really throw ya
You'll lose the blues
And you may lose your heart." Ted really was just enjoying himself.
"Tonight is the night I've been waiting for
Even the moon looks just right
I'm sure the crowd will make room on the floor
When they see you
Look like you do"
It would be so easy to stop playing and turn to him and...
Henry was really considering it. Instead Henry joined in with the singing.
"So...
How 'bout a dance
Let's make a start
Music like this
Can really throw ya" Henry could tell Ted hadn't been expecting that. Henry harmonized.
"You'll lose the blues
And you may lose your heart
You'll lose the blues
And you may lose...
Your heart..." There was a moment of silence. Henry could do that now. Luckily he didn't have decide.
Ted leaned into Henry. The two men breathed in unison. Then the heart palpitations started. Ted glanced down at Henry's lips but quickly returned his gaze to Henry's eyes.
Then it happened. There lips met in a beautiful moment of harmony, unlike anything Henry had ever seen in any score.
