Can this moment last forever? Henry doesn't ask for much but if this could be the rest of time that would be great.
Their lips parted. They didn't pull away from each other though.
"Hen-" Ted started to say something. Henry cut him off with a kiss.
Words are stupid sometimes. Who needs to talk? Not Henry! Right here now. He so warm. Henry was practically intoxicated.
Their lips parted once more.
"Well I feel like that this isn't how singing lessons usually go." Ted laughed a little. Henry was overcome with bliss.
"Yes this is quite unorthodox." Henry chuckled. Henry didn't know what to do. He just sat there merely inches from Ted.
"So should we run through the song one more time from the front?" Ted laughed. Henry didn't think he could mentally continue with the class.
"Perhaps we should conclude class early." If Henry is too flustered to teach what's the point. Ted looked slightly sad. It's nice to know he cares. "Are you hungry?" Henry's terms this time, less grease and less alcohol.
"Yes actually." Ted's entire face lit up.
"I'm choosing the restaurant. North side is lovely but I have somewhere else in mind." Ted had his turn now it's time for Henry to take control.
Henry grabbed his things from throughout the studio and led Ted out.
"Where are you two going, Professor." Lucy called out from behind the desk as she saw them on their way out. How she still finds that funny is one of life's great mysteries.
"Let's lay off it Lucille." Henry pushed the front door open.
"Your alliterations have no power against me!" Lucy called out as the door closed behind the two men.
"Don't mind her." Henry knew that Ted was not used to the loud chaos of theatre. Making Ted feel welcome is important.
"So where are we going again." Ted looked at ease. That's good.
"Well it's a restaurant." Henry randomly felt the overwhelming urge to grab Ted's hand. That's be a bit hasty, right?
"Well I guessed that much." Ted chuckled.
"This way." Henry grabbed Ted's hand and pulled him down the street. Henry hoped he wasn't coming on to strong. He was never good with this kind of thing."Here we are" Henry was still holding on to Ted's hand. He didn't want to let go.
Paradise boulevard, basically a jazz bar without the booze. Henry thought Ted would like it.
"I don't know, Northside is a pretty nice restaurant. I'll have to trust you on this one." Ted smiled at Henry. Ted seemed very smiley.
Henry pulled Ted into the building. Still holding on to his hand.
"Table for two please" the waitress at led them to a small table towards the front window.
There was a woman singing on the stage accompanied by a small band.
"You keep smiling." Henry didn't mind Ted smiling at all. He didn't mind at all. It's just out of character.
"So do you."
Henry isn't good in theses scenarios. What's he supposed to do? Does he like... flirt? What is flirting anyways? Is it hot in here?
"So what's Ted short for?" Great conversation Henry.
"Theodore. I know it's a dorky ass name." Ted looked a little embarrassed. Henry really liked Theodore, Ted suited him better but Theodore is cute.
"No I like it." Henry smiled at Ted. Theodore smiled back.
"What will it be?" Henry didn't even notice the waitress arrive at the table.
"Shit I haven't even looked at the menu yet." Ted scanned the menu, "oh shit this is in French."
"We'll have to orders of Flamiche." Henry thought gored might like that. The waitress nodded and walked off.
"So what exactly is flamiche?" Ted totally butchered the pronunciation but you know it's fine.
"You'll just have to trust me." Ha ha Henry is the Ted now! Ted kind of looked down.
"Listen, about last week. I just wanted to apologize. It wasn't any of my business." Ted looked down at Henry's hand that was placed in the table, "I was just concerned."
Henry was consistently surprised about how much Theodore cared about things. Passionate is not a trait the Henry had pegged for him.
"It's ok. I forgive you, Theodore." Henry smiled sweetly.
"Are you going to keep calling me Theodore?" Ted chuckled.
"Oh yeah" The two men laughed.
"So a jazz bar?"
"It is not a jazz bar. It is a French restaurant with jazz. Alcohol is not a good idea for us." Henry smiled, "You seemed to like Sinatra so I thought you might like this place." Henry didn't want Ted to be uncomfortable.
"My mom listened to a lot of Sinatra." Ted smiled to himself. A mama's boy? Theadore really full is surprises.
"That's nice." Henry realized how long it's been since he's thought about his parents.
The waitress arrived with there food.
"Voici votre nourriture monsieur" the waitress set down the food.
"Merci beaucoup" Henry thanked the waitress. She walked off.
"You speak French? Also does the wait staff all speak French?"
"Je parle seulement un peu le français. They might all speak French I don't really know."
"Huh, you're an interesting person."
"How so."
"Biology and theatre, it's weird mix. You also know French apparently?" Ted looked impressed. Henry felt a little more confident.
"Well I've always had a natural inclination towards science and the theatrical arts. I also took a semester in France." Henry shrugged. The mundane to him might be extraordinary to others.
"You also have a big ass vocabulary." Ted was just laying on the compliments.
"That's because I read, Ted." Henry laughed a little.
"Makes sense." Ted nodded. He smirked "the on top of it all you're very attractive."
They kissed so Henry could blush and not feel embarrassed. That's how that works right?
"That's like the pot calling the kettle black." Henry smiled.
"So is this a date?" Ted looked a little nervous.
"My bet's on yes." Henry leaned farther into the table and consequentially closer to Theodore.
"Cool."
They spent the rest of the meal making conversation and listening to music. It was quite pleasant."You payed last time. I've got it." Henry urged Ted to put away his money. Henry brought him here, Henry is going to pay.
"Well yeah but it's not like a diner is expensive." Ted persisted. Good thing Henry could speak French.
"Why don't we split it?" Henry offered.
"That works." Ted handed Henry his card.
When the waitress came over to get the bill, Henry pulled her aside.
"Je vous donne deux cartes mais charge le repas entier à la carte noire." Henry struggled to find figure out how to say what he meant.
"Peu importe ce que tu dis." Either the whole wait staff spoke French or Henry was lucky enough to get the one French speaking waitress.
The waitress came back with the two cards. The two men took their leave.
"So I'll see you soon?" Ted and Henry stopped out side the restaurant.
"Of course." Henry smiled.
"Are you going to Paul's birthday thing Monday?" Ted asked hopefully.
Henry forgot that that was a thing. Emma mentioned it a while ago but he had forgotten.
"Yeah I'll be there." Henry smiled.
"Well this is goodnight." Ted picked up one of Henry's hands and kissed it. Henry was not expecting that. His face heated up.
"Goodnight." Would it be weird to kiss him? Why would it be weird?
Henry pulled Ted into a kiss. Ted was a good kisser.
Henry really was just over the moon.
"I'll see you Monday." The two men went their separate ways.
Henry hadn't been on a date in a while. This was really nice though. Henry started humming the song that the woman was singing in the restaurant.
"Look at me..."~~~
I was in a weird jazzy mood when writing this so yeah.
