Henry has no fucking clue what to get Paul. Emma suggested he just get him a tie or a gift card. Those are pretty lame gifts but paul's kind of lame so whatever. Not anything against paul! He seems like a... guy.
Henry arrived at there apartment a little early to help Emma and paul set up for the gathering. Henry didn't really know who was going to be there other than the survivors. At least Theodore will be there.
"Let me in." Henry buzzed up to the apartment.
"Ok bitch damn." Emma let Henry up."How can I help." Henry set his gift down on their dining table. Henry got paul a simple tie. He nearly bought a tie with music notations on it but that felt in poor taste.
"You're tall, hang up this sign." Emma handed Henry a glittery sign reading "Happy birthday Paul!" Henry found it hard to believe that Emma made this.
"If only you had put this much effort into your assignments." Henry started hanging up the sign.
"Ok you can fuck right off." Emma flipped off Henry.
"So who exactly is going to be here?" Henry didn't mind people it's just... he didn't want to meet new people.
"Probably just the hatchetfielders. Paul doesn't like his new co-workers and he doesn't know many people."
Thank god. No new people.
"Isn't this a bit much for just the four of us?" It wasn't extravagant for a birthday party, but a giant glittery sign? For four people?
"I don't know, it felt like a nice girlfriend kind of thing." Emma stopped working and sat down on the kitchen counter.
Henry realized it was only the two of them in the apartment.
"Where's paul?" How has he not noticed? Henry sat down with her in the kitchen.
"Oh Ted took him to lunch." Emma checked her phone. Oh Theodore, what a good friend.
"That's nice of him." Henry smiled. Henry's mind went back to that night. Henry thought about the kiss, well the kisses. Henry's face started heating up.
Emma must of noticed this.
"Ted? Nice? I wouldn't think he was nice. Of course you might know something I don't." Emma raised her eyebrow. Emma is Henry's best friend, she deserves to know.
"Oh well he's a pretty passionate guy, I would say."
He really cares about the singing and dancing classes it feels like.
"Passionate" Emma's eyes widened.
"Not like that!" Well maybe like that, "get your mind out of the gutter Emma!" Henry hoped he wasn't blushing to much.
"Oh" Emma laughed to herself.
"Theodore just cares about a lot of things." Kiss. They kissed. Ahhhhhhhhh
"Theodore?" Emma laughed "but really that's it? He cares about things?" Emma had a mischievous look in her eye.
"Yes?" Where is she going with this? Henry knew he was probably bright red with blush.
"Then why are you blushing so much?" Emma smirked and leaned back, clearly very proud of herself.
"We just uhh, we just kissed." Henry tried to be nonchalant.
God he was so warm. He smiled so brightly. Henry wanted to hold his face again.
"I knew it!" Emma was definitely satisfied with herself. Her phone dinged. "Oh Ted and paul are on their way over. So please tell me more."
"What's to tell?" Henry was going to tell her eventually but it's fun to leave her hanging.
"Bitch what do you mean what's to tell? What happened!" Emma looked a little annoyed.
"I told you what happened, we kissed."
Emma had murder in her eyes.
"Ok ok, I was giving Ted a singing lesson and we ended up kissing." Henry really tried to play it off.
"Ok I'm going to let you finish. But Teds taking singing lessons." Emma's eyes lit up. She looked like she got legitimate joy from this fact.
"Yes he is. We went on a date after the lesson. It's not a big deal" yes it is don't lie to yourself.
"Yes it is don't lie bitch." Henry's spending way to much time with Emma.
Emma checked her phone.
"They're here. This conversation isn't over Hidgens." Emma stood up and walked towards the door.
Paul and Ted walked in moments later.
"Hey babe." Emma kissed Paul
"Wow that is quite the sign." Ted seemed a little confused.
"That's what I've been saying." Henry tried not to stare at Ted. It proved difficult.
"Well I like it." Paul smiled down at his girlfriend.
"Thank you." Emma flipped Henry off, again.
"So what do you have in store." Ted asked Emma.
"We could watch a movie." Emma suggested.
"Sure" it sometimes seems like paul will just go with whatever Emma says.
"Well the birthday boy should choose the movie." Ted slapped paul on the back.
"Oh uh, I don't know like Casablanca I guess." Oh Casablanca, nice choice paul. Henry respected that.
Emma started to cut up the movie. Paul prepared some popcorn. Henry and Ted situated themselves on the couch. The movie started up. To Henry's surprise everyone was relatively unphased by the music in the movie.
Theodore was sitting so close to him. Paul and Emma were right there though. Paul wrapped his arms around Emma. Just because they've been dating for a little while, they get to be all cuddly.
Ted put his arm around Henry. Henry's heartbeat sped up. Henry didn't know whether it was appropriate for him to really lean into Theodore.
Emma glanced over at the two of them. She smiled evilly and went back to watching the movie.
"And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by" the song in the movie played. Really a great song.
"I want to learn this song next." Theodore whispered in Henry's ear. God, Ted's breath in Henry's ear. He could melt. Henry leaned a little into Ted. This is good.
Henry enjoyed the rest of the movie from the comfort of Theodore's arms. This is the life!
