Henry woke up in a bed that was not his. He was alone in the room. He was tucked in to the bed. There was sunlight streaming through the window to his side. There was a bucket next to him for some reason. He tried to stand up, blood ran to his head quickly.
Shit shit shit. You're to fucking old for this Hidgens. He was wearing all his clothes so he couldn't have fucked up to badly. He slowly started remembering what happened last night. He was in Ted's apartment and they were drinking. He could hear music from outside the room. He think he recognized the tune.
Henry tip toed over to the door and pushed it slightly open. Ted was cooking something. He was singing along to the song that was playing.
"But a man could easily lose his sanity
Deciphering his gaze." Ted wasn't a bad singer. There was something of sincerity in his voice. Henry could listen to Ted sing for hours.
Ted hadn't noticed Henry watching him from the doorway. The smell of bacon had completely overtaken the room.
"I am vain and I am heartless and yet
I can feel in you a shade of sadness
That's barely detectable" Ted waltz around the kitchen.
"That I still want you at all
I may live to regret
You're deceitful
You're delectable" Ted stopped cooking for a second and just stared blankly.
"You see the fate of a man
Who has had the misfortune
To spend his life caught in your sway
I see Sibella
My Sibella
And I like him that way
Yes, I like him just that wayAnd, I want you that way"
Ted stared blankly. It was quiet. Henry started clapping for lack of a better way to respond. Ted looked a little off guard for a plot second then regained his composure
"You have a lovely voice Ted."
"Why thank you." Ted curtsied at Henry then continued to cook. "How did you sleep? That mattress is awful. "
"I slept fine." Henry sat down at the bar. Remarkable how it's also a breakfast bar.
"Good. The food'll be done in a second." Ted pulled out a plate and set it in front of Henry. He poured scrambled eggs on the plate. He set out bacon and toast for Henry to take.
"You didn't have to make me food." Henry waited patiently for his host to get food.
"My pleasure really. I have an excuse to cook." Ted sat down next to Henry and started eating.
"A gentleman's guide to love and murder? That's a rather obscure show, I'm surprised you know of it." Henry began to eat as well.
"The traveling company was in town a couple months back, I went with my niece."
"That's a perfect song for your vocal range. If you don't mind me saying you have much more singing potential than dancing potential." Henry chuckled a little to himself. Ted only half smiled. They sat in silence for a second.
"So..." Ted looked a little uncomfortable.
"So..." the silence was truly deafening.
"Do you want to talk about what happened." Ted looked up at Henry. Henry kept his eyes on his bacon.
"I should not have drank as much as I did and for that I apologize. I became an emotional mess and that was irresponsible of me." Henry didn't look up. Henry wasn't really in the mood to open up today. More in a mood to listen to singing and eat a pleasant breakfast.
"You said something like they're gone. It was hard to make out what you said." Ted just couldn't fucking let it go. Christ.
"That's not for you to worry about." Henry god damnit you will not cry in front of Ted again.
"Well y'know I'm here to talk if you'd like." Ted reached out and put a hand on Henry's shoulder. Henry went completely stiff.
Without another word Henry stood up and walked towards the front door.
"Thank you for your hospitality." Henry walked through the front door. Henry should have never fucking agreed to dinner. Christ. He had only gotten half way down the hallway when he heard footsteps hurrying towards him.
"What do you want Ted." Henry stopped walking.
"You don't have to talk about it, Henry. I just I don't think you should be alone right now." Ted kept his distance. Henry stayed still, he didn't move and didn't say anything.
"Do you want to come back inside. It's ok if you don't." Ted took a step closer.
"I don't want to go back in."
"Ok that's fine." Ted took another step closer.
Henry didn't really know where to go. He felt stuck in this hallway. Where is safe? Where would he feel comfortable? He really didn't know.
"I'm going to Emma's" Henry started walking down the hallway. Emma cares. She's kind and she'll keep Ted in line.
Henry pushed open the door and headed in the direction of Emma and Paul's apartment. The sun was glaring, it gave Henry a headache. Ted was following him at his coattails.
