Chapter 8 - Protection

*takes place during and after Return of the Gladiator

Crystal's POV

Crystal was waiting for the team to return. She was in the kitchen, preparing a surprise. It had been a while, but she was preparing some cookies for the team. She was struggling to remember the recipe when she remembered that her grandmother had taught her a rhyme to remember it. Then, she started singing.

Cookies are easy, that's why I'll make them

I make them to be happy

A cup of butter, soft as silk

And sugar white as snow.

Another cup of sugar

but brown like chocolate.

To add flavor vanilla is needed

2 teaspoons are all.

2 eggs of large proportion

And 3 cups of flour.

Another teaspoon of baking soda

And half of that

To add the powder that helps with baking.

Then you add the chocolate chips

Which brings in the thing people love

Finally, add the secret ingredient

The secret spice that you mustn't say aloud.

Once combined, you have joy

Give them to family, give them to friends

But never keep them for yourself.

As she finished, she heard clapping from the door. She turned her vision toward the door and realized that Hunk was standing there holding some sort of plant. "H-Hunk, how long have you been standing there," she asked, blushing.

"That was amazing!" he said. "I didn't know you bake."

"Well, when I lived on Earth, my grandmother taught me her recipe. To make sure I never forgot it, she taught me the rhyme you heard me saying."

"But what's the secret ingredient?" he asked. I laughed.

"I can't tell you." Hunk gives you puppy dog eyes. "Before she told me the secret, she made we swear not to tell anyone unless they have earned it."

"How do you earn it?" he asked.

"I'm not sure, she just told me that when the time was right, I'd know." Hunk let out a sigh.

"Well, would you mind helping me make a proper lunch. Coran made us this weird green blob with yellow stuff coming out of it that smelled awful."

"Sure Hunk. Just let me put these in the oven so I can give them to the team when we're done." After that, I helped Hunk make the food. Both of us were pretty good chefs, so we were a little daring at times. When we were finally satisfied with our meal, we took it out to the paladins. Hunk was carrying the actual food while I was carrying the cookies I made. The look on Keith and Lance's face was beautiful. They had stars in their eyes and ate almost everything.

"Hunk, this food is amazing!" Lance said through his mouth full of food.

"It wasn't just me. Crystal helped a lot," he said, motioning to me. "She also made these special secret family recipe cookies to share with you guys." Lance eyes the cookies. He bites into one.
