Chapter 11 - Power

During Tears of the Balmera

Crystal's POV

I stopped fighting. I just floated there in the tube, limp and emotionless. Then, I finally heard Sendak speak.

"Haxus! I want whoever's in this ship found and terminated!" he said, his voice full of rage.

"Commander Sendak, I've received a transmission generating from somewhere inside," responded Haxus. He then played a transmission.

"There's not much time before they get the ship running again. You must shut off the particle barrier so we can get in." 'That voice.' I thought. It was Allura.

"You got it. Tell me what to do." Then, I heard another familiar voice. The voice that made my heart flutter even though I commanded it not to. 'Pidge.' I think.

"The particle barrier generator is beneath the main hull," Allura responds

"She's telling the intruder how to take down our defenses," Haxus says after the transmission plays.

"Yes, but she's also giving away his location. Find that room. Kill the Paladin!" my heart sinks. 'Oh Pidge, please be careful.' Unluckily, Sendak noticed my worry. "Don't worry witch. When the sentries find the little rat they will bring him here to kill before your eyes." My eyes start to tear up. 'This is why you shouldn't get attached to anyone. They'll either die or leave you behind.' my subconscious says. Eventually, Sendak contacts Haxus.

"Haxus, report in," he states

"Haxus is gone, and you're next!" Pidge shouted into the mic. 'That's my girl' I thought.

"You've slowed me down, but this ship is mine! You will turn yourself over to me immediately!" Sendak demands.

"Never!" Pidge yells back.

"Well, then, maybe your friend can convince you." Sendak then walks over to me.

"What do you want?" I say, my voice tired, but now full of a new found anger.

"Your friend wanted to hear from you," Sendak said. I braced myself for the pain.

"Crystal?" Pidge said, her voice full of sadness.

"Pidge, don't listen to—" I then let out a scream. Sendak embedded his clawed prosthetic into the wound he had previously made. He then sent very powerful electric volts into it. This makes me scream louder.

"No!" Pidge screamed.

"You can make it stop. Turn yourself in. She suffering is in your hands." he said.

"PIDGE DON'T DO IT!" I finally say.

"ENOUGH! Paladin, if you do not turn yourself in I will make quick work of your little witch friend here." Sendak yells. Then the transmission ends.

"You're a lot stupider than I thought if you think Pidge is just going to turn themselves in," I say, happy that at least before I would die I would get in at least one last witty remark at Sendak.

"I wouldn't be so sure about that," he said to me. He then walked away. "Hello green paladin, come to turn yourself in I see." 'No, Pidge why.' I thought to myself. But something wasn't making sense. 'Pidge is smarter than this. Unless...' I then do an internal chuckle. I remembered the hologram device that she showed me before the party. 'Pidge, you smart little gremlin.' "Hey, get back here!" Sendak yelled. I then heard footsteps running out of the room.

I then heard smaller, lighter footsteps coming toward me. "Crystal, it's me Pidge. I'm-" then Pidge screamed.

"You really thought your little hologram trick would work with me?" he said. That was the last straw.

"DON'T YOU DARE HURT HER!" I screamed. Then a headache hit me like nothing else.

Pidge's POV

Crystal was curled up in a ball in the tube, crying out in pain. The look on Sendak's face was pure terror. 'What's going on. Is there something he knows that we don't.' Then, Crystal stopped screaming. She then looked up. Behind the mask, I could see to yellow glowing orbs. 'What's going on!?!'

"DON'T YOU DARE HURT HER!" Crystal yelled in a voice nothing like her own. The shackles on her hands suddenly exploded. She then held her hands up and summoned to yellow floating orbs around the size of a baseball. She then threw one at her feet shackles and other at her weird purple tube cell. Then she started attacking Sendak. He dropped me almost immediately, trying his best to block the orbs she was throwing at him, but he wasn't fast enough. At one point Keith and Allura show up, probably to rescue us. 'Well, Crystal seems to be doing a good job by herself.' I thought. Keith and Allura's faces were both pure shock and slight fear. Crystal was still attacking Sendak relentlessly. Sendak's prosthetic arm was on the floor in tatters and Sendak himself had several burn marks all over his armor and body.

"NEVER HURT ME OR MY FRIENDS AGAIN! AND ESPECIALLY NEVER HURT PIDGE!" With that, she summoned one final orb the size of a beach ball and threw it at him, knocking him into the center of the bridge. Allura then activates a barrier trapping him inside. But instead of trying to break out, he is trying to back away from Crystal who is floating a foot or two off of the ground.

"Monster," he called her. Just before she throws another orb at him, I grab her hand. She then looks at me, her face contorted in rage. But upon looking at me, her face softens.

"Pidge," she whispered. Then, her eyes stopped glowing and she touched the floor. She is able to stand for a second but then collapsed on the floor.

"Crystal? Crystal!" I say. She lets out a small cough.

"Pidge?" she asked. "What happened. The last thing I remember was Sendak holding you. I'm guessing you saved us" she said, her voice tired and weak.

"No, it was you. You saved me." I tell her tearfully. I hold her up in a hug, but she winces. I finally notice the long cut going from her shoulder to her wrist. Around the edges, I see purple veins. 'That's where Sendak hurt her.' I thought. I was filled with anger. 'Don't worry Crystal, you're gonna be alright.'

"Heh, no. I'm pretty sure you saved me. You made Sendak pretty mad when you delayed to castle launch." she let out a small laugh. "I was pretty funny." She then tries to get up, but I stop her.

"Rest, I'll carry you to the healing wing," I reassure her.

"I don't think so, little Pidgeon. I'm bigger than you," she said, slightly joking.

"Excuse me," I said, making a little pouting face. "I was able to catch you when you fell out of the pod." We both let out a small laugh.

"I'm guessing I have some explaining to do," she said, letting out an exhausted sigh.

"After you spend some time in the healing pod," I tell her. She lets out a groan.

"That's the third in the span of two days," she said, clearly frustrated. "Why can't danger not hurt me. At least until next week." I let out a small chuckle.

"Come on, let's get you ready." I then help her up. At this moment, Hunk and Coram arrived with the crystal.

"Pidge, this is Hunk. We got the crystal."

"Great job Hunk. Could you and Coran bring it up to the bridge." I ask.

"Got it. See you in a bit," he replied. Slowly but surely me, Allura, and Keith help bring Lance and Crystal to the healing wing. Allura was holding Lance bridal style while Keith and I were supporting Crystal as she made an effort to walk. When we finally get them to the pods, Crystal and I exchange a final look before she went into the pod. 'Thank you Crystal, for whatever you did.'
