*Note - This entire chapter is Crystal's story

I was an orphan. The only memories I have of my birth parents are big, firm hands. They were rough but so gentle with me. I remember hearing a man telling how I looked just like my mother. I also remember him telling me that he needed to send me away and that he'd find me someday.

When I was four, I was adopted by the best family in the world. They treated me like I was their daughter. Like I meant something to them. As a kid, I was nervous about going to school. My brother gave me his bandana and told me that as long as I wore it, he would always be with me. My school experience wasn't anything special. I did good in classes, had a few friends, the normal stuff. But also like other students, I had bullies. The group of popular kids decided that I would be their target. But no matter how many times they would come after me, my brother would stand up to them and protect me. He told me that he would never leave me and that he would always love me.

A few years later, it was my 9th birthday. Quin had decided to surprise me and took me to my favorite place in town. It was a bridge overlooking a large river. When the sunset, the river would sparkle and shine as if it were made of gems. My brother had just gone to get us some ice cream, so I was alone on the bridge. No one else was there since it was sunset and our parents had trusted Quin. Then, Elisa and her group showed up. They started mocking me, calling me a freak and telling me how weird I was. They ripped my bandana from my face and started throwing it around, keeping me from getting it.

"HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" someone yelled. We all turned our heads to see Quin, a look of pure rage on his face.

"Oh, nothing," Elisa said, putting on her sweet face. "Just putting the trash in its place."

If looks could kill, Elisa would have died then and there. Quin stomped over and snatched the bandana from her hands.

"Never. Touch my sister. Again." he hissed. Elisa let out a hiss.

"You're no fun. You used to be cool, but you threw everything away for her." Elise spat.

What Quin did still shocks me to this day. He has always been a generally nice person and the worst I had ever seen him do was yell. He raised his hand and slapped her across the face.

"HOW DARE YOU!" she screeched. She shoved him back where he hit the railing on the bridge.

But the railing collapsed from his weight.

I sprinted over to catch him, and I barely managed to grab onto the other end of the bandana.

"Hang on!" I yelled at him. Even though I didn't want to admit it, I knew I wouldn't have been able to pull him up. He was three years older than I was.

"Crystal, let go. I don't want to bring you down with me," he said, somehow calm.

"NO! I can't lose you!" I yelled back.

"If you won't then I will" Those were his last words. With that, he let go of the bandana, plummeting into the rapids below.

"NO! QUIN!" I screech, half a mind to jump and follow him. But something stopped me. I felt firm hands wrapped around me, holding me in place. I turned around, only to see a kid from school looking at me with sad, kind eyes. His name was Zack.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING! LET ME GO!" I scream, trying to break free from his grasp. He held me tighter and pulled me away from the edge.

"I NEED TO SAVE HIM!" I screeched.

"I am so sorry," he whispered in my ear, tears rolling down his cheeks. I finally stopped fighting. I just melted in his arms, uncontrollable sobs escaping my mouth. Quin was one of the few people who I could open up to, and now, he was gone.
