Chapter 14 - Saving the Balmera

Pidge's POV

We hadn't heard from Crystal in a while. The last thing we heard from her was strange danger warnings. This didn't sit well with me. 'Crystal obviously knows more about this than we do, but she also seemed very lost.' I front of Voltron stood a very big coffin looking ship. I gave off a feeling of uneasiness.

"Please tell me there's not a giant monster in there. Please tell me it's empty! Or full of space candy. One of those two. Either one is fine." Hunk said, clearly scared.

"I don't think it's a piñata, Hunk," Lance said.

"If it's the same kind of monster that attacked us on Arus, we already know how to beat it," Keith said. He summoned Voltron's sword and I readied Voltron's shield.

"Hold your ground!" Shiro commanded. From the coffin ship, a giant lizard looking creature emerged. It was red with a pale underbelly. Its eyes were electric green and it had an eye on its chest. It had very sharp looking teeth and its arms hung limply on its side.

"It's not candy!" Hunk yelled out.

"And it's not the same monster!" Lance then said. It then shot a blast at Voltron which we scrambled to avoid.

"We need to draw its fire away from the Balmera's surface!" Shiro commanded. We flew around, trying to draw its fire away from the surface of the Balmera. It then shot a laser from its chest eye which we blocked with the shield.

"We can't hold out!" Lance said.

"My Lion's weakening! If the shield sustains structural damage, we're done for!" I yelled at Shiro.

"Pidge is right!" Keith responded.

"Oh, Pidge is right. I'm the one that said, 'We can't hold out!'" Lance said.

"Lance, watch your footing!" Keith snapped back. Voltron then trips and falls over, losing our shield.

Crystal's POV

Voltron was fighting a losing battle. I was running through the tunnels, trying to find a hole to the surface that was near Voltron. 'I can help them. I just need to get to the surface.' I thought. I kept running and running, not once stopping for breath until I found a hole to the surface. Then, I started climbing. By the time I get to the surface, Voltron has split into lions and is still trying to evade the monster. Once I get close enough to scan the monster, I spoke into my helmet.

"Listen up team Voltron. The monster may have powerful weapons, but those weapons are its weakest point. Those are its eyes, so if you shoot them, it will hurt it more." This gives team Voltron an edge, but eventually, they needed to retreat and regroup.

"We can't hold out. We have to. Lions, to the mine shafts! It's the only place the monster can't get us." Shiro said. Meanwhile, I'm thinking on a ledge near the monster which is just within my radius. 'If I could get closer, I could get a better scan of it. It might be dangerous, but I need to do something.' I thought to myself. I then scan a way to the monster without it seeing me. Team Voltron didn't seem to notice me missing, so I didn't have to worry about them stopping me. Slowly, I creep up behind the monster carefully staying out of its field of vision. By the time someone noticed me being gone, I was quite close to the monster.

"Crystal, where are you?" Pidge asked, her voice slightly worried.

"I'm in the tunnels," I whispered, trying to maintain as much stealth as possible.

"Really. Then why are you whispering?" she questioned. 'Shoot, that didn't work. Well, I might as well tell her the truth.'

"I'm on the surface of the Balmera. I'm creeping up on the monster to try and get a more detailed scan of it." I heard the sound of someone falling.
