Breath of Another World (BOTW Link x Reader)

Hateno tech lab

"Wake up, Link!"

The blonde jolted when I launched a pillow at his face, and he lashed about before shooting up into a sitting position with his messy hair falling over his eyes "What? What's happening?"

"Up and atem sleeping beauty~!" I sang out while walking around his bed, tossing his boots onto his lap "We gotta move 'n find this Shiekah lab— or whatever it is."

Link yawned into his hand, still not completely awake "What time is it...?"

To be honest, I didn't know. I literally woke up when I heard other people moving outside and took this as a sign to get up to. So instead of answering, I again whacked him with the pillow "Doesn't matter. Come on, where's that hero energy from yesterday?"

"Yeah, yeah..." Link groaned as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed, and began to undo his messy ponytail. "I'll be up in a sec, why don't you look around since we don't actually know where we're going."

"Maybe I will." I huffed with my chin up, ignoring the thought of him looking pretty darn cute with his hair down. It's a distraction, Y/N, you can't be thinking about this now!

I marched out of the room and bid farewell to Prima, the innkeeper before opening the door to the outside air. Cool morning air brushed against my face, and clouds of mist drifted along the path. I have to admit, the air here's a lot cleaner than in my world...

AH! Don't. Get. Attached!

I began looking around the village for any signs on where to go. I wanted to avoid talking to the people for now, as I wasn't exactly a social butterfly, and I didn't know the name of the place we were looking for. While I was walking, I noticed a guy staring at me intently which caused me to stop in my tracks. However, after giving him an awkward wave he averted his gaze instantly.

Okay... Weirdo...

"Y/N!"

Link's voice caused me to turn and see him jogging towards me, his hair now tidier and his boots now on. When he stopped in front of me, he had just finished slipping on his gloves "Find anything?"

"No..."

He pursed his lips together "Maybe we should ask for directions."

"But wouldn't that be confusing since we'll be following each other?"

"...Good point." He rubbed the back of his neck "We could always split up."

"Meet back here in thirty minutes?"

"Sounds like a plan."

Link and I high fived while jogging past each other, which had me questioning what it was even for. Maybe it was a silent good luck. Whatever it is, I can't let myself get chummy with the blonde... Especially if we're going to leave each other in the end.

I stared down at my hand. What's the point in getting close to someone, when you know it won't last?

After exploring Hateno for a little while, I still couldn't find the lab we were looking for. There was a lot of shops and houses, but no labs. And when I did ask someone, they'd just give me nervous smiles and waved off the question. Was this place really weird or something?

"You sure can't tell me anything?"

"W-Well," The man rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly "All I can really say is it ain't no place for young maidens like yourself."
