Motivations

It felt like forever since I'd seen something other than luminescent and water. It felt like forever since I'd felt something other than pain. It felt like forever since Link had left to take on the remaining Divine Beasts...

But in reality all this only happened two days ago.

I was becoming more hopeless with every passing hour. All I did was sit by the window and stare at the water below the Domain. My arm had been put in a sling to help lessen the movements of my shoulder, and the Zora had even treated the wound on my side from those bokoblins on the Great Plateau. They were being so generous, without even asking anything in return. I just wished they wouldn't have to in the first place...

If only I could be stronger...

If only I could be smarter...

If only I could be... more like her.

She was a thief, yes. And she was nowhere near an ideal hero... but she held her own against ten royal guards; who were picked to protect the royal family due to their skill. And then there's me... I took a single hit, and I was down. And because of that Link's out there, probably beating himself up over what happened to me. Hell I don't even know if he's still alive.

She led Link through a war, and took a fatal blow in his place in order for him to continue this fight...

"Why can't I be like her...?" I whispered to myself.

"What are you muttering about, dearie?"

I jolted, hissing when the movement disturbed my shoulder before turning around. An elderly woman dressed head to toe in a black cloak stood a little ways away from me with a cane in hand.

I cleared my throat "I-I'm sorry ma'am, I didn't realise anyone else was here."

The woman laughed "Oh that's quite alright, it's me who should be apologising for interrupting. You seemed quite lost in thought."

"Yeah... But it's probably best that I stopped anyway. I was bumming myself out..."

"Yes you did seem rather unhappy when I came here," she frowned and walked over to the chair by my bed, sitting down before patting the mattress for me to do the same. When I did she stared at my arm "Now, how did you get that? Not from a flight accident, I hope."

I raised an eyebrow "Flight accident?"

"Yes, you better not be using my paraglider as a toy, y'hear?" She scolded playfully, banging her cane on the floor. My eyes widened slightly; I thought she looked familiar!

"You're that bokoblin lady!!" I blurted without thinking about my words "Wait- no you aren't— not to say you look like— oh god that sounded rude..."

The lady chuckled as I stumbled over my words.

"Sorry," I sighed, rubbing my temple at my idiocy "I meant to say you're the lady Link and I saved from that enemy camp, aren't you?"

"That's quite alright, dear. And yes, I'm surprised you remember a little old damsel in distress like me." The woman laughed, showing me what looked like a playful smirk. Though, since most of her face was hidden I couldn't really tell. "Well in any case I'm glad to see you, however I can't help but notice you aren't with your handsome little friend."

Oh... right.

I tensed, my face falling as I looked away from her. "We... don't travel together anymore. We've done all we could together, but he decided it was better to go our separate ways."

"He decided?" Her lips twisted into a frown "It wasn't a mutual decision?"

"Well, no... but it's for the best." I smiled painfully "Even if I wasn't in this useless state, I wouldn't be of much use to him. I'd just be another life to worry about, another mouth to feed... and I can't even use a dumb spear without it breaking in my hands - which weren't made for using weapons in the first place... And I doubt my conversations do him any good... Anyway he's where he should be now; away from me."
