Narrow escape

So here we are, legs aching as we kept low to the ground and snuck over to the next rock. The Lynel had its back turned, but that only made it all the more frightening. What if it knew we were here and decided to pull a 'You got this Travis, make em wait for it' on us?

Stay calm...

Link and I scurried up and hid safely behind the rock, sighing out in relief and taking a moment to calm ourselves. Link looked over the edge to check where the ferocious beast stood, and then gave me a thumbs up over his shoulder to show it was all clear. That's when I proceeded to tiptoe up to the nearby tree and pull out the three shock arrows that were stuck in the bark, while trying my best not to touch the electrified tip. I made it back to the blonde hero and slipped the arrows into his quiver, "That's ten." I whispered.

"Halfway there..." he sighed before nudging me forward to the other side of the rock, leaning over me so he could look for the Lynel.

He pulled us both back.

It was right there!

"Shoot..." he muttered, gripping my shoulders in irritation "We'll have to go the other way..."

I glanced at him from over my shoulder. It seemed like he understood what I had said, but there was something about the way his fingers twitched that told me he was itching to fight that thing. I just hoped he could hold that urge. So with a final glance at the monster we turned and headed the way we came, once again staying low to the ground to emit the least amount of noise as possible. I kept my gaze on our hiding spot, which meant I wasn't really paying attention to where I was stepping.

I think you know what that means...

"Ribbit!"

I yelped as my foot slipped on the slimy back of a frog, which caused my entire front body to jerk forward and loudly splash into the puddle we stood in. My front half was soaked. Link turned around in shock to see me on the ground, and he went to help me... only to freeze when looking up.

His eyes widened, which already told me we were screwed. For the Lynel was staring right at us, its hand ready to unsheathe its sword.

Oh man... I screwed up.

With one move Link had pulled me to my feet and behind him, shoving his quiver into my hands in the process.

"Collect the shock arrows," he told me while taking out his sword and shield "I'll deal with... that."

"But—"

"Y/N, we made a deal." He turned his head slightly to glance at me "If you're quick about it, we can get the hell out of here before I defeat it."

Or it defeats you...

I knew a fight was inevitable at this point... the Lynel was staring us down with its hand clutching its large sword tightly, and Link had already unsheathed his weapon. I wanted to avoid this... but it's too late now.

With hesitancy I tore my eyes away and took a few steps, but turned back to say two words to the hero.

"Don't die!"

Maybe 'good luck' would've been more motivational, but I really didn't want him to die. I know I have know right to say that because of my... outburst, but Link was about to fight a monster three times his size due to my literal slip up. Whether he was doing it to prove me wrong, or because he'd just remembered a close friend only to be told he was the cause behind her death... his mind wasn't in the right place, but I couldn't stop him.

I took off with Link's quiver slung over my shoulder, hearing the Lynel roar out and hooves thump against the ground once my back was turned. I winced as I heard the first of many clashes of metal, and knew I had to be fast with collecting the remaining ten arrows.
