I was surprised to see him, and even more surprised I was able to remember his name. I had only met him once; which was when he had shown up to talk to Damia about dodgy pumpkins he had traded... I mean, I guess those odd catlike eyes of his were difficult not to recognise."Wow, small world right?" The man chuckled sheepishly, ruffling the back of his spiky black hair "Didn't exactly expect to see you all the way out here, either."
I had recovered from my shock, and therefore shrugged casually "I get around, it's just how my life is right now."
Obi smirked "Clearly. Damia was right, you are full of surprises."
"Uh, excuse me."
Ah... right.
My head turned to face Link, who was glancing between me and Obi with obvious confusion and perhaps even suspicion "Mind introducing me to your... friend?"
The way he said 'friend' was slightly off, with a hint of a jab in his tone, but I brushed it off quickly and pointed over to the travelling merchant "This is Obi; one of Damia's trading partners. I met him while I traveled with Damia, which was when he separated from me. Basically, he was the reason why that Casonova wasn't with me when I found you."
Link's eyes narrowed slightly "How many men did you meet in that time?"
I pursed my lips in thought, and began to count on my fingers "Well there's Flirtia, Obi, that one guy with a donkey, Sidra - though he's only like a tenth of a man... oh! And that Yiga guy Damia booted. Also why does it matter?"
He shrugged "No reason..."
"So wait," Obi spoke up again "This was the guy you were trying to find? Huh, I should've known there was reasoning behind your dedication."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, well... it seems to me like you two are an item. Considering how you're cuddled up like that."
Again?! If I had a rupee for every time someone mistook us for a couple, selling monster parts would no longer be necessary!!!
"I-It's not like that!" I stammered as I slid away from Link entirely, trying not to react as his hand dragged across my stomach as I moved, leaving a tingling trail behind it. The lack of warmth made a strange wave of loneliness wash over, but I waved it away as I addressed Obi "We were just... He was just... I was... ummm..."
I was struggling, that much was obvious. I didn't know what to say, due to the fear of actually hurting Link's feelings. I didn't want to say it was an accident, or misjudge the situation as a playful gesture... Christ, when did I start thinking so deeply about other people's emotions?
Link seemed to catch on soon enough, and stepped forward so he was next to me "I was suffering from nightmares last night, so I thought having someone close would help with that. Plus, last night was pretty chilly, you have to admit. Also... Y/N seemed to be developing a fever, at least it looked that way since her face was all—"
"Okay shut up!" I squealed in a panic and quickly covered his face with my hands "Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up!"
"I already have shut up! Shut... shutted... shat... ugh!" He pulled my hands away after multiple failed attempts at wordplay "The point is that I've stopped."
"Good."
"Great!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
Obi chuckled at our behaviour, which earned our attention as he leaned forward to pet his horse. Though, presumably after processing what Link said, his face face into a serious expression "You said you were having nightmares?"
