Purah had told us that in order to activate the terminal in her lab containing the missing runes, she required a blue flame from the ancient furnace in town. It seemed pretty bizarre at first; why did the terminal need fire power, and why was that fire blue? But Link didn't stick around to question her. So here we were making our way down the hill, a torch in Link's hand as our minds were set on our current objective.
"So," Link piped, hoping to start a conversation "Ever seen blue fire before?"
"I've seen gas being caught alight to make a bluish flame," I replied, though not really interested in starting a conversation "But actual fire that's blue... no. Must be a your world thing."
"Must be." He agreed.
Silence once again overtook is. I liked the quiet, but obviously Link did not as he made a second attempt to converse.
"Sure hope it doesn't rain," He commented when gazing up at the sky "I'd like to do this in one go so we can push forward."
I raised an eyebrow "Are you sure you aren't just eager to get your memories back?"
Blood rushes to his cheeks, and he averted his gaze with a nervous cough "T-That's just a bonus..."
"Sure it is."
Link puffed his cheeks in annoyance. Oh boy, he really was like a child.
As we walked, I noticed Link's eyes had gone out of focus and his lips formed a thoughtful pout. Perhaps he was thinking about his past, seeing if he could slip through any cracks of his conscious in search of any leftover memories. The only things that stuck was his name, his skill in combat, and his courage. It made me wonder, how different was he 100 years ago?
While I pondered I hadn't noticed Link had gotten a little too close to the edge while still in a world of his own. Only when his foot slipped off the edge did he snap out of it with a loud gasp, which quickly got my attention.
"Oh crap— Link!" My hands shot out and grabbed a fistful of his tunic to hold him up. Out of instinct, he grabbed my wrists for extra support. My heels dug into the earth when I backed up, pulling him away from the edge. When we were far enough, the two of us let out a sigh of relief.
"You okay?"
"Y-Yeah. Thank you." He breathed out, seemingly dazed. I gave him a small nod and pulled myself from his grasp.
"Just... be careful. Anyway the furnace is over there."
Link only nodded, seeming reluctant to leave my side as he held the torch over the mystical coloured flame. When turning towards me, I stood in front as if to block the wind from blowing it out. We slowly made our way back up the hill. That is until he spoke up again.
"You know, Y/N," Link began "I don't think you're as cold as you show yourself as."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Oh just the fact you've already saved me twice presumably without giving it any thought."
I glanced at the boy over my shoulder, only to see his suggestive smirk and turn fully towards him "Oh shut up, I'm allowed to be decent sometimes. Besides you're this worlds only hope now. I'd be dooming it if you—"
I stopped in my tracks when the flame went out between us; we were already halfway up the hill. We glanced at each other, then at the torch, and once again exchanged a glance.
"Your fault." I deadpanned, which caused him to clet out an offended sound.
"How was that my fault?!"
