Chapter 44

Aaron POV

Why the hell did I kiss her? Veronica can not know about this. Well, at least not now.

"Where are you Veronica??" I asked to myself.

I drove to Veronica's house and walked to the front door. I knocked on the door.

"Aaron??" Veronica's mom said while opening the door.

"Yeah, I know I'm the last person you wanna see right now but I can't find Veronica. I was wondering if you have an idea where she might be." I said.

"What do you mean you can't find her?!?!?" She asked me very worried.

"We were at school and then she got kicked out of soccer. She then went home early." I said.

"Why did she get kick out of soccer?!?!" She asked me.

"Well, it's a long story but she feels like she betrayed her father." I said.

"The lake." She said.

"What??" I asked.

"The lake that they would go every single day." She said.

"What lake??" I asked.

"The "Never Leave" lake that is like a mile away from here." She said.

"Thank you." I said.

"Aaron, please text me when you find her." She said and I nodded.

I jumped in my jeep and drove to the lake.

Veronica POV

Aaron and Mariah has been texting me and calling me. I have ignored all of them.

"I'm sorry." I whispered over and over again.

All of a sudden, I feel strong arms around me. I knew who it was but just seeing the lake, I remembered what my dad told me and what I told him at the hospital.

Flashback    (Lake)

"Veronica, Darling." My father said.

"Yeah." I said.

"Mommy told me that you broke a promise." He said.

"Oops." I said while smiling.

"Veronica, you can't break a promise. If you promise something, you have to let it happen." He said.

"Don't make promises that you can't keep." He said.

"Ok, my first promise is, I promise I won't make a promise that I can't keep." I said and he hugged me.

"Promise me you won't leave me." I said.

"I promise." He said.

End of Flashback

Flashback   (Hospital)

"Veronica.....I'm proud of you. You won in soccer." He said while laying down in a hospital bed and fighting for his life.

"Please, don't leave me. You promise me you won't leave me." I said as tears started to go down my face.

"I'm always gonna be next to you Veronica. In your happiest moments and in your saddest moment." He said.

"Veronica, promise me you won't give up on soccer." He said while holding my hand.

"I promise and I want you to be with me to see that I will never give up." I said as he wipes the tears off my face.

"I'm always going to be there in every single game no matter what." He said.

"I promise you I will never give up. NEVER." I said as more tears started going down my face.

The machine next to my father's bed started to beep letting me know that his heart has stop.

"I promise.........." I said as I hug him and cry.

"I promise." I whispered.

End of Flashback

I closed my eyes and letting my tears fall.

"Why Veronica?? You didn't have to." Aaron said.

"Hockey is your everything Aaron." I said.

"But I hate seeing you like this." Aaron said.

"I betrayed him Aaron. I promise him something and I broke it." I said.

"Veronica, this is my fault. I shouldn't have done that." Aaron said.

"It's not your fault, it's mine. I promised something that I couldn't keep." I said reminding me and my father playing here.

"He is proud of you Veronica." Aaron said.

"He didn't like liars." I said.

I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

Aaron POV

She falls asleep and I carried her to the passenger seat. I took her to my house. I texted her mom letting her know that I found her.

"I broke my promise." I whispered while kissing her cheek.

I drove to my house and took her to my room. I laid her down in my bed. I laid down next to her and hugged her tight.
