"Continue through the Hall, to find your first task." A door behind the pillar opened, and after sharing a quick glance with Kiren, we proceed. The hallway itself was dark, and longer then it may at first seem. Though, my guess was that it was Ava's magic at work. "Why did she call you 'big brother'?" Kiren asked. I sighed, continuing to walk, "Did you really think Izaya and I were the only kids Uriel had?" It was silent for a moment, "How many?" I frowned, I hadn't thought about the others a while. "There are nine of us in total. Izaya and I are the 3rd and 4th oldest. Ava's the 5th. I have not had any contact with any of them in so long..."
Kiren placed a hand on my shoulder, a sympathetic smile on his face, "I'm the same with my brother... God I have seen him since he was like... two." After that, the conversation stopped. Only our echoing footsteps could be heard. After what felt like an eternity of walking, we reached a black and purple door. I pushed it open and immediately felt the heat. I looked into the room, it looked like the inside of a volcano. Everything was made of stone, a large opening in the middle of the floor that glowed, looking down, it was clear that this was a volcano. Or at least a simulated one. I heard muffled shouts causing me to look up. There Shiro was dangling, if this had been almost any other situation, I might have laughed at how stupid he looked. But right now, he hung above a lake of molten lava, and we were his only chance.
"Welcome to your first challenge!" Ava's face appeared, "For this one you'll need to find a way to safely get the black paladin down." Kiren smirked, "Really? That seems way to easy—" I raised my hand, "She's not done. What's the catch?" Her twisted smile was back, "You are not allowed to use your shadows. You must use another means. Oh and before I go!" She brought up the image of Keith again, "You may want to hurry through these tasks. I don't think red here is going to live through the day in his condition." I clenched my fist, "Ava. I swear, if he dies..." She waved me off, "Your threats mean very little to me brother. This is my game, not yours. You can't hurt me here... not this time."
With that, the video stopped, leaving me confused. "How are we going to save Shiro?!" Kiren yelled, snapping me back to the task at hand, "Focus on Shiro for now..." I whispered to myself, turning to Kiren. I tried to think of a way to solve this one. God I wish Izaya were here... He was always the brains of the operation. "We have our blades... I can't use my shadows to get Shiro..." I snapped my fingers, "Kiren! Your shapeshifting!" The older boy looked at me confused for a moment, then made a face of realization, "Right! That could work. Just give me a moment, haven't done any major shifts in a while."
As Kiren focus, I cursed for not remembering it sooner. Kiren may have only been half Altean, half Galra... but he had a unique skill. His Shapeshifting. He told me the story how he had gotten the ability. Apparently, he had been in an accident and required a blood transfusion thing. However, at the time he had been on a planet of shapeshifters, so he friends had asked around. One of the locals offer their help, they changed their own blood to match his and saved his life. However, it had also given him the same abilities of that race.
"Okay... Here goes nothing..." He mumbled, closing his eyes. I watched, hearing his bones crack as he changed, as two large black to red wings appeared on his back. Kiren opened his eyes, looking over his shoulder and laughed a little, "It worked! Yes!" I smiled a little at his excitement. He looked over at me with a smirk, giving me a thumbs up as he pulled out his blade with his other hand, "Leave this one to me." He spread his wings, taking off into the air. I watched as he cut the rope, catching Shiro, before landing on the other side. I wasted no time in making my way over to them.
Shiro pulled the gag out of his mouth, trying to steady his breathing, "The other... they..." I placed a hand on his shoulder, "It's alright Shiro. We're going to get them back." He took a shaky breath, and I decided to hug him, since it looked like he could use it. The older man laughed, wrapping his arms around my smaller frame, "We should have listened to you." I hummed in agreement and pulled back. I took a few steps back, looking around the room and cupping my hands around my mouth, "What do you have planed next Ava?!"
Once more her face appeared. "Well done big brother! You managed to save one... or should I say your friend managed to save him... either way you passed. So, through the door and on to the next challenge." A door appeared behind us, opening on its own. The three of us entered the next hall, Shiro grabbing my shoulder, "Why did she—" I interrupted, I had a feeling I'd be doing this another four times anyway, if Ava continued to refer to me as 'Big brother'. "Izaya and I were not Uriel's only kids. I have seven other half sibling, all of whom still worked with him last time I saw them. I explain it better when we aren't trying to save the others." Shiro nodded slowly. Removing his hand from my shoulder.
At the end of the hall we found another door. This one was Green and white. I had a feeling my sister had colour coded the doors, and if so Pidge would be behind here. So, I pushed the doors open, ready for the next task, no matter what it was.
