Summary:

If one were to learn about Japanese society entirely from their entertainment media, one would get the impression that high school in Japan is a very dangerous place. Every student is an alien, a time traveller, or an esper, and they’re called up routinely to save the world as we know it. But in Inou Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de, the members of the literature club (of course it’s the literature club) suddenly gain superpowers, and nothing comes out of it. Kanzaki Tomoyo (Yamazaki Haruka) controls time. Kushikawa Hatoko (Hayami Saori) is an elementalist. Himeki Chifuyu (Yamashita Nanami) creates matter. Takanashi Sayumi (Taneda Risa) is a pseudo-white mage. Andou Jurai (Okamoto Nobuhiko) is a standard loser harem lead. Half a year has passed, but none of them have been scouted to attend a school for mutants or participate in deadly battle royales. Yet. Deep down, the literature club is confident that their physics-defying abilities have a higher cause. The superpower battles will begin any day now! Right?

Own opinion:

Adapted from a light novel by Kota Nozomi, Inou Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de does not come off as a satire per se, but does make light of a number of shounen manga tropes. The idea of a bunch of people expecting the Call to Adventure that never comes actually has some depth for exploration, like a cross between Waiting for Godot and those chuuni shows, or a variation on the Suzimiya Haruhi schtick. Whether or not Inou-Battlecontinues in this direction remains to be seen; the promotional material paints the picture of an unassuming harem comedy. With over-the-top powers, of course. The bit of silliness will make Inou Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de a perfect palate cleanser for those who already consider superpowered high school kids to be mundane. Let's just look forward to it because it looks interesting.
