"I have some jobs that you guys will be required to do," JYP states. I let out a breath as I begin to breathe steadily again. I smile as I look back at JYP. "I'm going to need some of you to go out and scavenge for medicine and food. The ones who remain here will help with cleaning and cooking. I will speak out the following names that will be running and the ones who will be staying."
"Runners are,
Hyunjin, Changbin, Jisung, Bang Chan, Ryujin, and Woojin."
The ones who stay are,
Sana, Seungmin, Jeongin, Minho, Yeji, and Hana."
"I feel like I forgot someone," He looks around at each of us. He stares intently at Felix and smiles. "Felix, right?"
"Yes, sir," Felix nods with his deceiving, low voice. I watch their interaction carefully.
"You stay here at the sanctuary, I have a special job for you," I hold my curious reaction so no one will see my concerned face.
"The runners will be leaving in fifteen minutes. Make sure you all meet with our head runners, JB and Jinyoung, for supplies and weapons. They will be waiting at the entrance," JYP informs us. "The ones staying here, meet with Jihyo to get informed on your tasks."
We all nod and leave the office room except for Felix who was asked to stay. I look back at Felix to see him looking at me. He notices my concerned look and nods at me to comfort me. I smile and nod as I close the door shut.
Once we all separate to fulfill our tasks and meet up with our leaders, we all split off and begin to work. Right before I started cleaning, Hyunjin walks over to me with his supplies and weapons on him. I frown as I watch him meet me one last time before he leaves.
"You're leaving now?" I ask with a frown. Hyunjin frowns at me.
"I'll be back," Hyunjin says.
I don't react to his statement because I don't want to jinx anything. I smile and hug him tightly before he gets called to leave. He kisses me which catches me by surprise. When we part from the kiss, Hyunjin's name is called and I look back to see Jisung at the main door. I sigh and then look back at Hyunjin.
"That's your cue," I say.
"Take care of my sister for me," Hyunjin says before leaving. I nod.
Hyunjin leaves which makes my heart drop. I sigh as I turn back around to see my sister giggling. I blush when I see my sister's reaction and try to hide it by grabbing one of the spray bottles and cleaning the tables.
"He's so sweet to you," Sana says with a cute voice. I look up slowly as I try to hide my red cheeks. Sana smiles at my face.
"I've never seen him act so nice to someone," Minho states. I shrug and continue wiping down the tables. "No, I'm serious. You must seriously be something, Hana."
"I don't know," I shrug and try to stop my face from getting any redder.
"Your boyfriend is cute, though," One of the girls we've met today chimes in. Jeongyeon is cooking in the kitchen and can hear us all talking. "Were you guys dating before the world was a dumpster?"
"No," I shake my head as the rest of us laughed. "I don't even know what we are," I turn to see Yeji brooming the commons quietly in a corner. Is she okay with me being close to Hyunjin? I've never really talked to Yeji that much and now, I guess I'm another important girl in his life other than her. I quietly continue wiping the tables.
[the medicine i was given to walk,
on this rough road]
I walk past our room and see Yeji inside, reading a book. I smile and stop my tracks to knock on the door of the room. Yeji looks up from the corner she is seated at and smiles at me to come in. I awkwardly walk in as I try to start a conversation.
"What are you reading?" I ask. Yeji looks up from her book again.
"This is Not the End by Chandler Baker," Yeji says. I nod and tilt my head to the side as I slowly slide down next to her.
"What's it about?" I ask. A surprised yet happy Yeji begins to explain.
"It reminds me of the kind of world we live in right now," Yeji says. "There is this girl and her best friend and boyfriend die in a car accident and they were like family to her. In this world, you are allowed to revive someone but only once and the girl has to make the hardest decision on who to resurrect. But the only downside is, she already promised her resurrection to someone else a long time ago. She tries to find an answer on how to save her friends but then meets a boy who changes her goal. The boy didn't believe that resurrecting people was right, which the girl then asked herself, should she save her friends or just let it go and move on," I listen insightfully to Yeji as she explained. I felt intrigued myself by the summary.
"I'd let it go," I answer as I take a deep breath. Yeji is looking at me now rather than my book. "Everything happens for a reason. Even in this damned world, if people die, then we just have to grow from it."
"You..," Yeji says quietly. I look back at her and notice her hesitant face.
"You can talk to me," I say and nod. Yeji sighs.
"You were supposed to die," Yeji tells me. "You got bit but it's been a few days since then. You should have turned but you didn't," I shrug as I think about what Yeji had just told me.
"Maybe someone resurrected me," I joke. Yeji laughs but then I start to ponder more. "How did this disease even spread?"
"What do you mean?"
"This zombie outbreak. Did someone want to resurrect someone else just like in the book?"
"Maybe."
"Maybe..," I repeat quietly as I am in deep thought
"If yes then why are you immune to this disease?" Yeji asks.
I start to think more about how the outbreak started and why I didn't turn. The thoughts brought me back to last night with Felix, when we saw the men in white experimenting. My eyes widen just thinking of Felix and I quickly stand up. Yeji looks up at me with a confused face.
"I have to find Felix."
