lvl 20: fear

We arrive back at the sanctuary which gives me a sick feeling in my stomach. Once we all enter the hospital, we report to the staff that JB got shot and they immediately send him upstairs. I watch them as they rush him up the stairs and feel a wave of uneasiness.

I didn't notice I was still holding Hyunjin's hand until I tried walking to my room but he pulled me back. He spins me around and hugs me again. My eyes grow wide as I sink into his embrace once he starts speaking.

"Thank you for coming back for me," Hyunjin says which makes me smile.

"Of course I would," I say. "I... I would miss you if I didn't" Hyunjin parts from the hug with a smile on his face.

"I should go get cleaned up," Hyunjin says and walks away.

I decide to take a shower. I change into my regular clothes and exit my room to see the girls at a table together. I walk over to them when I notice Sana with them. Sana sees me and immediately bursts out of her chair to hug me.

"I was so worried about you!" She says as she holds me tight.

"I know," I say. Once we let go of the hug, I take a seat at the table.

"Hana, you guys took longer than expected. What happened?" Jihyo asks. I think back to the situation we were in and wanted to shake that memory out of my mind.

"We... we ran into some bandits," I stutter as I get a shiver down my spine just thinking about it. "They shot JB in the shoulder."

"JB got shot?" Jeongyeon exclaims and covers her mouth. I nod slowly and then sigh.

"We got medicine for him. We had to fight for it though," I say.

"Well, we're just glad that you guys are alright," Momo says and then I fake a smile.

"I should go check on the others," I say awkwardly and leave the table.

Before I leave, I look over at the staircase and remember Felix. I hope he's alright. I sigh and as I stare at the door and then walk away towards the rooms.

"Hana!" I hear two voices call me.

I look inside their room to see Seungmin and Jeongin both looking at me with wide eyes. Their eyes are glistening as they run over to me and hug me.

"You're okay!" Seungmin celebrates.

"Did anyone get hurt?" Jeongin asks.

"JB got shot," I say slowly. They're happy faces instantly turn into sad frowns. "He's being treated right now," I say, trying to get their hopes up. "We treated him right after he got shot and got him medicine."

"Hopefully he'll make it," Seungmin says in a doubtful tone.

I frown at his reaction and then look down at my concealed bite. Seungmin and Jeongin plop onto a bed with dead faces.

"Hey, I survived this," I raise up my arm and uncover the bite which is now just a scar. Jeongin sits up and looks at my arm.

"Why did you though?" Jeongin questions.

"Is there something in your blood that prevents you from turning?" Seungmin questions and sits up too. I shrug and pull down my sleeve to hide the scar.

"What if you're the cure?" Jeongin asks.

"Cure?"

We all hear a voice and we all look up to see JYP. All of us suddenly go mute once we realize, JYP is in the room. I look back at Seungmin and Jeongin who both have baffled faces. JYP takes a step closer to us which freaks me out.

"Did one of you guys get bit?" JYP asks in a calm yet threatening tone.

I gulp down my fear and feel my body shaking. JYP stares at me with wide eyes which sends shivers down my neck.

"JYP!" We hear a voice and JYP turns around. Jisung is at the doorway with Changbin. "I have been meaning to ask you about the shortage of food," Jisung says and then JYP looks at him with a confused face.

"Uh- shortage of food?" JYP questions.

"Yes, come with me! I'll show you the kitchen," Jisung says in a weird voice and drags JYP out of the room before he could find out anything about me.

I exhale, not realizing I was holding my breath. I sigh and hold my chest as my heart tries to slow down. Changbin takes my hand which surprises me. I look at him with big eyes.

"You're cold," Changbin says as he holds my hands. "You're welcome by the way," He looks at me and then at the younger ones. I smile as I notice Changbin trying to not be sincere with us.

"Thank you," I say and then Changbin smirks.

"Why is JYP so creepy?" Jeongin asks which makes us all laugh.

I lay in bed thinking back to what Felix told me a long time ago.

Don't go to sleep.

I don't sleep anyway. I haven't been sleeping. I don't know if it's because I'm scared I might get eaten or scared I will be killed with my eyes closed. I don't know if it's because I'm afraid my sister, my friends will get hurt if one of us is not awake. Or maybe, I'm scared that someone will find out I'm bit.

I toss and turn in bed as I stare at the darkness of the room. I sigh and sit up as I run my fingers through my hair. I look towards the door of my room and then at the dark corners of the room where my friends are sleeping. I slowly get up and try to open the door. I slowly turn the knob and the door opens. My jaw drops. I thought they locked our doors at night.

I peek my head out into the hall and see barely visible parts of the commons. I slowly tiptoe towards the main area where the moonlight shines through the window.

"Hana?" I hear my name and look back to see Seungmin.

He comes out of his room while itching his head and squinting at me. I stop walking and put my finger to my lips.

"We have to run tests on JB..," I hear faintly from the staircase as the voices get louder. I look at Seungmin with wide eyes as he does back at me.
