A few weeks later...

Stomp. Crunch. Stomp.

I stand up from my desk and tilt my head in confusion.

Stomp. Stomp. Stomp.

I close my journal and place it in my backpack. I exit my room and see Hyunjin, Felix, and Wonpil, outside of their rooms.

Growls. Moans. Stomp.

I look over at Hyunjin who walks over to me.

"Do you hear that too?" Hyunjin asks. I nod my head and run downstairs to check out what is happening. Felix, Wonpil, and Hyunjin follow me.

"We have to go," Felix says.

"Why? What is it?" I question.

"It's a zombie herd," Felix states, sending shivers down my spine.

"How are we going to evacuate everyone?" Wonpil asks.

"Actually, us four don't need to be in the vans," I say which makes everyone surprised. "We can run."

We woke up everyone and helped gather our things into the vans. The longer we took the louder the herd was. They traveled faster than we expected. We sent off the first van and opened the gates for them.

I look out into the road on our left and see a massive crowd of flesh hungry zombies. They are only thirty meters away.

"We have to hurry up!" I exclaim.

I glance at the next van and notice that someone slashed the tires. My eyes widen in shock and Hyunjin notices the problem too. I speed over to them.

"The tires are ruined," Sungjin states and runs his fingers through his hair in frustration.

"Who would slash them?" Dowoon questions. I shake my head and look back at the three at the gate who are holding it open.

"The priority right now is to get you guys out of here," I say with urgency.

"Hana!" Wonpil calls me. "They're getting closer," I sigh and look over at the rest of the group.

"You guys have to run, we'll hold them off," I say and then they all look at each other with uncertain faces. I realize Seungmin and Jeongin are in danger and feel my heart sink once our eyes meet.

"Hana, don't die out there," Seungmin says and I nod. I look over at Jeongin and him and hug them both.

"You guys don't die on me either," I whisper to both of them

"Hana!" Felix yells. I look back and see the zombies drawing closer.

"Go!" I exclaim and they all run through the gates and start running down the street.

I look in the van and see that the weapons are there. I grab them and hand them to the guys. They all start shooting to stall the herd from catching up to our friends.

A minute later, I look back and see them all gone and cue the guys to flee. We all speed away from the herd and pray that our friends made it out safe. The guys and I stop at a gas station to catch our breaths. I enter the little store the gas station provides and see a dead body on the floor. Hyunjin follows me inside as I take some snacks.

"Are you okay?" Hyunjin asks me and takes a chip bag himself. I nod and look up at him and notice how concerned he looks.

"What's wrong?" I ask him.

"Yeji was supposed to be in the van that got its tires slashed," Hyunjin tells me and sighs. I put the rest of the chips in my bag to focus on our conversation.

"Don't worry. Yeji's a big girl and knows how to protect herself," I comfort Hyunjin. "I'm sure she's fine," Hyunjin nods. We are interrupted by Wonpil and Felix who enter the store as well.

"How are we all going to reunite?" Wonpil asks and takes pretzels from the aisle and eats them.

"We never planned a safehouse to escape to in case this happens," Felix shakes his head and takes a pretzel from Wonpil's bag.

"We don't have a way of contacting each other either," Wonpil states.

"We'll find each other," I try to assure the guys. "I know we will. We just have to ensure our own safety first."

"We've never been separated like this before," Hyunjin says. "I've never been separated from Changbin and Jisung like this."

I notice Hyunjin getting anxious and taking his hand in mine. He smiles at me as I hold his hand and tries not to worry.

"We all should keep moving until we find a sign of the group," Felix says. We all nod and leave the gas station and continue traveling further down the road.

Seungmin's POV

"We have to stay down here for now," Sungjin tells us and we all hide in an abandoned cabin deep in the forest.

"You don't think the herd will come here, right?" An anxious Jeongin questions as he watches out the window.

"They'll probably stay on the main road. They must think they'll find more food there than in a forest," Jeongyeon says. We all breathe hard and try to catch our breath after running so fast.

"How many of us are there here?" I question and look around the dark room.

Sungjin lights up a lantern which is the only thing that lights up the room. The dim light makes it hard to see everyone's faces. I look around the room and notice that people are missing.

"Jihyo, Woojin, Jae, Dahyun, Nayeon, Mina, Changbin, Jisung, Ryujin, Momo, and Sana all were in the other van," Sungjin states.

"We should make sure everyone is here," I tell Sungjin and he nods in agreement.

"Me, Seungmin, Jeongin, Tzuyu, Jeongyeon, Dowoon, Chaeyoung..," Sungjin's voice is off which makes me nervous. We all look over at him as he freezes up and becomes tense. "Where's Yeji and Young K?" We all look at each other in shock and search around the room. "Shit."
