More arrows try and shoot at us as we hide for cover. I stick with Chaeyoung and Changbin as we both sneak between aisles.
"I think one of them is injured," I whisper. Another arrow is shot near us and we run and hide to another aisle. Chaeyoung grabs some chips and snacks and stuffs them into her bag as we run.
"We have to get rid of them," Changbin says as they fire more arrows.
"What if they're good guys?" I question.
"Can't risk it," Changbin says and continues to run and tries shooting one of them this time. He misses.
"Changbin wait!" I call after him but he leaves Chaeyoung and me behind. I sigh and look over to the other bandits and see that one of them is on the ground. "He's hurt," I say, and then Chaeyoung glances to see.
"It doesn't look like there's a lot of them," Chaeyoung states.
"Grab more food while I try to get a closer look," I say.
"I'll cover you," Chaeyoung says and I run towards them and hide in an aisle nearby.
"Wonpil, be more careful next time," I overhear. I cover my mouth in shock of how well my hearing is even with arrows flying everywhere.
"Just focus on the invaders right now," I hear another voice. I sigh and try to stop the firing. I raise my hands up and walk out of shelter.
"Stop!" I yell. "We're not here to fight or steal or kill," I state, and then the shooting stops. "Guys," I call my group. "Don't shoot them," The rest of my group finds me and all run over to me with confused faces.
"Who are you?" Their leader asks.
"I'm Hana. I'm from a camp nearby, we're just here to scavenge some food for our people," I say. "Who are you?"
"I'm Sungjin," He introduces himself. "We don't have a camp," My eyes grow wide.
"How long have you guys been out here without a camp?" Changbin asks.
"A few months," Sungjin answers. "We are trying to get to The Sanctuary."
"JYP's Sanctuary?" Dahyun questions and the other group nods.
"That's not a good idea," Jisung says.
"You should stick with us, JYP isn't a good guy," Ryujin says.
"We don't even know you guys," One of the members of the other group says.
"We can keep you guys safe," I say. I look over at his injured ankle and tilt my head. "We can take care of that for you," I offer.
"He's fine," Sungjin answers for him. "Plus, we have our own doctor in our group," I sigh and look at Changbin who shrugs out of ideas. "Look, we're fine on our own. We just need to get to the sanctuary. A friend of ours that we trust directed us there and said that that place is a safe haven," We all look at each other with nervous glances.
"We're telling you the truth, it's not safe there," Chaeyoung says. "JYP is not the good guy he appears to be," Sungjin looks at us with a perplexed face and bites his lip as he thinks.
"Fine, we'll camp out at your place for a few days and see if we'll continue on or stay," Sungjin states. I let out a sigh of relief and looked at my group with a smile.
My group and the newcomers arrive back at the motel and introduce the group to the rest of our friends. I notice Hyunjin and his group still aren't back yet which makes me worried. Woojin told me that they should be back soon and not to worry but I could feel something bad has happened.
"So Jae, you're a medic of some sort?" Jihyo asks as we all gather around the fire built by Seungmin in the middle of the parking lot.
"Yeah, I was studying medicine and bio-chem before... well all of this happened," Jae states which makes most of us squirm.
"Well, at least you know how to survive when you get injured in an apocalypse," Nayeon jokes which makes Jae laugh.
I nervously look around from my seat as I continue to eat some of my trail mix. Jeongin looks over at me and nudges my shoulder to check on me. I smile softly and not to let him know that he shouldn't worry. I sigh once he looks away and back to the group as I look back around for any sign of the other group.
"Hana," I hear my name which gets my attention. I zone back into the conversation with the group and smile as if nothing is wrong.
"Are you okay?" Jisung asks me.
"Uh, yeah," I stutter. "Sorry, it's just getting pretty dark," I scratch the back of my neck and nod.
"Yeah, Hana is right, we should call it a night," Woojin says and dismisses everyone. "Goodnight everyone," The whole group scatters except for Jihyo and Woojin who stay to put out the fire. They notice me still sitting on one of the logs, staring off into the darkness.
"Hana," Jihyo taps on my shoulder and I turn around. "They're going to be back, I promise. You should get some rest or... whatever you do at night time," Jihyo tells me, remembering that I can't sleep. I nod and go back to the room that I share with Sana.
Once I enter, I hear Sana silently crying under her covers in the dark. I turn on the lamp on the dresser immediately and run over to comfort Sana. I pull the covers off from her and hold her tight as she sobs in my arms.
"Sana, I know," I whisper. "It's hard without him here. It will be okay, we just have to be smart like him and strong like him."
"I miss him," Sana manages to say between her sobs.
"I know, I miss him too," I sigh and try not to cry as I hold her close.
There is a knock at our door and I look at Sana who stops her crying and sniffles. She wipes her tears from her face when I get up to go answer the door. I open the door and am shocked by the face I see.
"Changbin?"
"Can we talk?"
[i miss you, i miss you]
