lvl 34: smoke

Hyunjin helps me down the tree once the sun rose enough for us to continue our search. We talked the whole night which made me love him even more.

"Are you okay?" Hyunjin asks me. I nod and grab my backpack, strapping it around my shoulders.

We continue deeper into the woods but then hit the main road. I look at Hyunjin who just shrugs. I look down the main roads a notice something white parked on the side in the distance.

We head towards that white vehicle. Once we are close enough, we realize it is a trailer.

"I smell her," I say and then run towards the door and open it. Hyunjin follows behind me and we both look inside. I scoff when we search around the empty trailer.

"There's no one here," Hyunjin sighs and sits on the bed in distress. I shake my head and then hear footsteps. I pause and look out the window.

"Hyunjin," I mumble and look over at him. He sits there in thought. "Hyunjin," I say a little louder.

He looks over at me with a frown on his face. I tilt my head to the door and he gets up. We both exit the trailer and see Young K and Yeji walking towards the trailer. I smile when I see Yeji and Young K and notice how relieved they both look. They run towards us and Hyunjin catches Yeji in her arms. They embrace and hold each other tight. I smile as I'm hugging Young K.

"You guys are okay!" I exclaim and hug Yeji once she let's go of Hyunjin.

"Yeah, Brian saved me," Yeji says and Hyunjin and I glance at each other with confused faces.

"Who's Brian?" We both say at the same time. Yeji's becomes flustered and looks over at Young K with a guilty face. We both understand and nod.

"I mean, Young K," Yeji says with guilt in her voice. Young K smiles a little but stays quiet. They have grown closer over the last few days, I can tell. I try to hold in my smile and look at Hyunjin.

"We should try to find the others," I say.

"Where are they?" Young K asks.

"We all split up when the herd invaded the motel," Hyunjin says. "We haven't seen them since."

"Where's Wonpil and Felix?" Yeji asks.

"We decided to split up from them," Hyunjin says.

"Hopefully, they're okay," I say. "We should stay in your trailer for now just to be safe."

Changbin's POV

Ring.

A loud ringing sets off in my ear as I try to get up from the ground. I try to see through the smoke but my blurry vision is not helping me. I heavily breathe as I try to stand up. I vaguely hear coughing and start walking towards the noise. I rub my eyes as I try to focus on where I am going.

"Jisung!" I yell, trying to search for my best friend.

"Jisung-ah!" I yell again. My distorted vision makes me fall to my knees.

"Changbin!" I vaguely hear my name. I slowly stand up again and limp in pain towards the noise.

"Ryujin!" I yell for my sister.

Woojin appears in front of me and I feel a little better. He puts his hands on my shoulders. I notice the dirt and cuts on his face.

"Can you hear me?" He asks me. I barely understand him because of the ringing in my ear. I nod a little.

"Where's my sister?" I ask. "Jisung?"

Woojin helps me out of the smoke where Sana, Mina, Jihyo, and Dahyun are. They all ask if I'm okay as I notice they're all bruised and cut as well. Woojin runs back into the smoke which makes my heart sink in fear. He comes back with Ryujin and Jisung which makes my eyes water. I hug both of them and start crying.

"I thought I lost you guys," I say as my hearing begins to come back.

"Me too," Jisung says and I look over at Ryujin who looks at me with a confused face.

"I can't hear," She mouths and then points to her ear. My eyes widen in fear.

"My hearing came back," I say.

We are interrupted by Jae and Nayeon who rush out from the chaos. Nayeon is unconscious as she is being carried by Jae. Jae gently places her own the ground. He puts his ear close to her mouth as he tries to hear for breathing. He shakes his head and begins performing CPR. We all watch in uncertainty. Woojin comes back with Momo and rushes to Nayeon's side.

"Shoot," He shakes his head.

We all watch Jae perform CPR for two more minutes. There is still no sign of life. Jae gets tired and stops kneeling to sit as he catches his breath. He sighs and shakes his head. Once we realized she was not going to wake up, I started hearing cries from Jihyo. Sana hugs her and Dahyun as they cry into her sleeves. A tear falls from my face as I watch the girls crying. Mina and Momo hold each other as Momo sobs. I look over at Jae who is also crying silently.

Woojin looks at me and pulls the gun out of his holster. I sigh and feel a weight on my shoulders. I take the gun from his hand and hesitate before aiming. Before I cock the gun, Jihyo stops me.

"Wait," Jihyo says through her tears. "I'll do it," I look at her with sympathy.

"Are you sure?" I ask.

She nods and then takes the gun from my hand. Jihyo's arm shakes as she aims it at the unconscious Nayeon. She covers her mouth after she cocks the gun. Momo and Mina look away. Jae stares at Nayeon as tears fall from his face while waiting for the Jihyo to shoot. Dahyun sobs as Sana holds her tight.
