EXT. ART TENT – DAY
Out of Order rocks out under the tent with borrowed instruments from the school. A larger crowd has gathered to see the show including Tristen, Vance, Savannah, and Clarke who shares a smile with Flynn. Even Mr. Edwards stops by. They lower the volume so Abram can address their audience while still playing the drums.
ABRAM
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the annual senior art auction. Nikki, show them what's behind door number one.
Nikki stops playing and walks over to the table to put one of the art pieces on display.
NIKKI
I think it's a frog. By the ever-charming Vance Peters.
Jeff rolls his eyes while playing.
ABRAM
Bidding starts at five bucks.
No one offers anything.
ABRAM (CONT'D)
No one. Really? He's standing right there.
He looks over at Mr. Edwards.
ABRAM (CONT'D)
What about the spiffy gentlemen in the back? Mr. Edwards everyone!
The crowd cheers. Mr. Edwards gives in.
MR. EDWARDS
Five bucks.
ABRAM
Come on you can do better than that.
MR. EDWARDS
Twenty-bucks. That's my final offer.
ABRAM
Sold. Good job, sir. Come on down.
Vance salutes Mr. Edwards as he goes up to collect his frog. Abram notices Torie enter the tent amazed at what's happening. He winks at her.
ABRAM (CONT'D)
Keep 'em coming.
Nikki picks up Savannah's tree.
NIKKI
"The Choice" by Savannah Montoya.
ABRAM
Five bucks is just robbery. Let's make it ten.
Vance raises his hand.
VANCE
Right here.
SAVANNAH
You don't have to do that.
VANCE
It made an impression on me.
ABRAM
Anyone want to go for fifteen?
Tristen raises his hand. Vance welcomes the showdown.
VANCE
We're really doing this?
TRISTEN
I guess so.
ABRAM
Now it's getting interesting.
VANCE
Twenty.
TRISTEN
Twenty-five.
Vance chuckles. Doesn't want to keep going, but can't back out now.
VANCE
Thirty.
The crowd looks from one to the other. It's a tennis match.
TRISTEN
Thirty-five.
VANCE
Forty.
TRISTEN
Two hundred.
The crowd gasps.
TORIE
Tristen. Really?
ABRAM
Now we're just being ostentatious.
TRISTEN
Are you going to take my money or what?
ABRAM
Sold to Jump Shot. If there are any other ceramic artists out there, you know where to go apparently.
Tristen goes up to collect. Nikki gives Tristen his prize.
NIKKI
Either there's some hidden stash inside this thing, or you just really like trees.
TRISTEN
It's for charity.
He heads out and Savannah meets up with him. Vance is disgruntled beside her.
SAVANNAH
You really think that's worth two hundred bucks.
TRISTEN
We have history.
VANCE
This was fun, but we're kind of on a date and you're the rickety third wheel. But enjoy your new toy.
He leads Savannah away.
