INT. LOGAN HOME/FOYER – NIGHT
Doorbell rings.
Passing through the front door, we move through the packed foyer as guests in 50's fashion dance to a live DJ. In a vintage Letterman jacket, Tristen chats with some friends sipping milkshakes. As we close in on the dance floor, we see the center of the party, Torie and friends. Torie is dressed as Dorothy Dandridge and Jaxson is the Joe to her Carmen. Mo and Shae are both dolled up in fancy 50's ensembles.
Shae spins around, stopping when she sees Brandy arriving as Billie Holiday. Her giant, elegant flower accented sunhat causes her to stand out. She makes her way over. Torie braces herself.
SHAE
Look who decided to drop by.
MO
I'm surprised your hat made it through the door.
BRANDY
Always a hater. Where's Tristen? I want to thank him for inviting me.
TORIE
I invited you. But you would only know that if you answered any of my texts.
BRANDY
None of them started with an apology, so I ignored them.
SHAE
Hey, since we're all here, we should get a photo.
The front door opens and Savannah enters in black faux leather, wild hair and red lips. Catching everyone's eyes, including Tristen's.
BRANDY
Doesn't feel like I belong in that picture anymore.
She walks away.
INT. FOYER – NIGHT
Savannah hangs back off the dance floor, watching everyone else have a good time. Tristen joins her.
TRISTEN
Your parents let you out of the house like that?
SAVANNAH
I might have snuck out the back door. But that's just between us.
TRISTEN
I'm not making any promises.
SAVANNAH
I just saw Brandy. Do you think she hates me?
TRISTEN
Why would she hate you?
SAVANNAH
Because I took her place. She probably looks at me like I'm some kind of group wrecker.
TRISTEN
Whatever happened with Torie and Brandy is between them. Don't stress yourself out over it.
SAVANNAH
Me? Stressed? Never. I am the most relaxed person you'll ever meet.
TRISTEN
Oh really? Is that why you look so terrified of the dance floor.
SAVANNAH
Choreographer and freestyle are two very different things. If I can, I try to avoid both.
TRISTEN
Then you came to the wrong place and I'm going to have to ask you to leave.
SAVANNAH
You're seriously kicking me out?
TRISTEN
House party rules.
SAVANNAH
Do you know how many hours I spent on my hair alone?
TRISTEN
I tell you what. You promise to get out there at least once tonight, and I'll give you a free pass.
SAVANNAH
Fine. It's a deal. But first, I'm going to grab a milkshake.
She walks away. Tristen smiles.
INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT
Savannah enters the sitting room where guests are lounging around and mingling. There's catered food and refreshments and a bartender serves milkshakes. Savannah sees Eric, dressed as Elvis, talking with a friend. She smiles. He nods. She heads for the bar and grabs a milkshake as Torie walks over.
TORIE
You look fabulous. Apparently, Eric thinks so too. Did you see the way he was looking at you? Go say hi.
SAVANNAH
Eric seems like a cool guy, but I don't think it's going to work out.
TORIE
You're just shy. And I think I can help you break out of your shell. Let's go.
She puts Savannah's milkshake down and leads her back to the foyer.
SAVANNAH
I'm not finished.
