"We'll go as slow as you need to." Socket says as we stand in the foyer of my home
"Why do I have to leave?" I pout as I look through the doors to the parking lot
"Because you are 26, your life isn't over and you can't just sit here and rot for the rest of your life. I'm your brother and I want you home with me." He says as he picks up my bag and walks towards the doors. I put my earbud back in and grasp my flashlight tighter as I follow him to the door. I take a deep breath and step outside. Immediately the warm breeze hits my skin and I inhale deeply, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss this, but I hate how scared I am just standing outside.
"Come on." He says as he opens the passenger door of the truck, I can just hear his voice over my music. I climb up into the truck and look around at the almost empty parking lot, there's no one around but Socket and yet my hands are already shaking with fear. I take another deep breath and Socket climbs in beside me and locks the doors
"Happy now?" He asks and I turn and check the back seat before nodding. He starts the engine and begins driving. I spot the cigarettes in the centre console and pull one out of the packet before grabbing the lighter and taking a long drag
"Since when do you smoke?" Socket questions and I roll my eyes
"Since I want the fucking shaking to stop." I say as I hold my hand out and it shakes uncontrollably
"Fine." He says before concentrating back on the road. I crack the window just enough to let my smoke out and sink down in my seat, bringing my feet up and wrapping my arm around my knees. I'm outside. I know it was always the end goal when I first went to the facility but I never thought it would actually happen, I would've happily died in there, Hell I just wanted to die. I'm still not sure I want to live, let's face it I'll probably never have a normal life now, I'm scared of everything.
I've smoked four cigarettes and yet my hands are still shaking when Socket pulls into a driveway and I look up at the small house
"This is where you live now?" I ask and he nods before climbing out of the truck and grabbing my bag. I know he had to sell our house to pay my medical bills, I worried about where he ended up, but this place looks alright. I look around the truck and don't see anyone before I climb out and quickly get to the front door. Socket unlocks it and we walk in, he closes the door and I reach around him to flick the lock
"As long as I'm here it stays locked." I say before walking off to explore the house
"This is the living room, I've got Netflix on the tv, there's the kitchen, my bedrooms on the right yours is on the left. There's locks on all the windows and I put locks on your bedroom door." Socket says as he points around the small house and I nod. He motions for me to follow him and I do until we reach my bedroom. I examine the locks on the door, four of them, hopefully that will be enough.
"You have a speaker on the nightstand, you have your own bathroom in there and I put extra bright lightbulbs in." I nod as I look around the room and see a lamp on the nightstand, a TV on the cabinet and the speaker on my nightstand. This should work
"Ok." I nod as I sit down on the bed
"I didn't know what colors you like so we can paint your room if you want to." He says looking at the white walls
"White is fine." I say as I look around. Last time Socket and I lived under the same roof I still had a love for anything purple. I hate color now, black and white is fine.
"I need to get to work but there's a new cell on your dresser, it's got my number and the clubhouse number in, if you can't reach me, call the clubhouse." He says as he points to the iPhone
"So you just took me away from my home and now you're just leaving me here alone?" I ask as I stand
"I have to work to pay for this shit, I can't babysit you." He says as he leans against the doorframe
"Well then you should've just left me where I was, I was safe there." I reply
"You're safe here, just call me if you need anything, here's a pack of smokes, go crazy." He says as he drops the packet and a lighter on my bed and leaves. I run to the front door and flick the lock closed behind him. I look out of the window as he pulls the truck out and drives away.
I run around the house and check every window and door is locked before running into my bedroom and closing all the locks. I turn my music up and pick up the cigarettes and my flashlight before sitting on the floor in the corner. I hold my flashlight in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
Why did he want this? I was safe at the facility, I had Becky and Dr. Ashton, now I'm in a strange place alone. Anything could happen to me and no one would know.
I empty the packet of cigarettes one by one as my music blasts into my ears but it's not working. Now my whole body is shaking and my face is wet with tears. I want to go back, I don't want to stay here. I crawl over to the dresser and grab my cell phone before crawling back to my corner. I manage to get Sockets number and press call, no thanks to my shaking fingers. It goes to voicemail and I can feel my panic getting worse. I begin to have trouble breathing, but I press to call the clubhouse
"Broken Demons." A male voice answers as I gasp for breath
"Socket?" I gasp, my body shaking, tears falling
"Sockets working, can I help?" He asks and I already know I'm going to black out
"Socket.... come... back." I manage to get out, I should never have left the safety of the facility
"Is this Sockets sister? I'll see if I can find him, I'll get you help ok?" He says as he puts the phone down and I drop the cell on the ground as I grip my flashlight tighter.
