"I just got off the phone with Killer and it's not good news. There was trouble and Killer knows they ID'd him. He's worried that now they know our prez is up there they will bring shit here." Bullet says as we sit in church

"Does that mean what I think it means?" Knuckles asks

"Yeah, lockdown. Circuit I want you monitoring traffic cams for signs of incoming, everyone on alert and prepared." Bullet replies

"Can you give me 30 seconds before you announce it?" I ask and Bullet looks at me confused before looking out to the bar at the girls

"I got you." He nods.

I could tell Evie was scared by everything she heard, but I'm going to try my best to make her feel safe.

I love the way Evie reacted to my body. She wants me, I know she does. I could see the lust in her eyes, the way she bit her lip and her body shivered at my teasing words.

I would rather be in bed with her, have her sleep in my arms, but I can wait. I lie back and listen as her music plays softly, but I can tell from her breathing she's still awake

"Can't sleep?" I ask

"How did you know?" She asks turning to face me and I smirk as I sit up on the couch. Fuck she looks so beautiful lying in my bed, her long dark hair spread across my pillow.

"Are you alright?" I ask and she nods

"Mind if I come sit with you?" I ask and she nods again. I walk around the bed and sit next to her with my back against the headboard. She rolls onto her back and looks up at me

"Can't sleep because you're not home?" I ask but she shakes her head

"I haven't really slept since I left the facility." She shrugs

"Is there any thing I can do to help?"

"No. Don't worry I'll be fine." She replies but I don't believe her

"Distract me, Who's Lisa?" She asks pointing to the tattoo on my chest

"She was my wife." I reply

"I'm sorry for asking, you don't have to tell me about her if you don't want to." She says looking away from me

"It's fine. Lisa was my high school sweetheart, I married her as soon as I got patched into the club, but she died when I was 21, it's been 10 years now since I lost her." I say as I twirl my wedding ring around the chain hanging from my neck.

"What happened?" She asks as she sits up beside me

"My father is president of the San Francisco chapter and we were at war with a rival MC, there had always been tension but it never got that bad before. We lost a few good people, one day there was a drive by of our clubhouse and a few bullets managed to get in, one of them hit Lisa and she didn't make it. A few months after the funeral it was all over so I asked to transfer out of the club and I've been a nomad ever since." I look up and see she's moved closer to me. I lift my arm up and she curls against my side as I wrap my arm around her

"I'm so sorry, that must've been heartbreaking." She says resting her head on my shoulder

"Yeah it was hard, I thought I would spend the rest of my life with her. She was in college and we said after she graduated we'd start having kids, she wanted four because she was an only child and hated it." I laugh as I remember.

"Do you wants kids?" She asks and I look down at her

"I don't know. I was happy to try to have four kids with Lisa but now I don't know. If nothing it taught me how fragile life is, so I just take it a day at a time, I haven't really thought about a future since." I shrug

"I always said I wanted two kids, a boy and a girl, just like me and Elijah, we were always close. Well we used to be." She replies sadly

"You're still his sister, I can see how much he cares for you, that closeness is still there." We sit in silence for a while, the only sound coming from her speaker as music plays softly.

"My mom died giving birth to Elijah, I was four so I only have a couple of memories of her. My dad turned to drink after losing her so it was always really just the two of us. The booze killed him when I was nineteen, Elijah was fifteen so I dropped out of college and came back to look after him so he could finish high school." She says as she wraps her arm around me

"I worked three jobs, but I kept us going. He never did finish high school and I hate that, but I'm glad he found the club."

"You have the club too, you're his family so you're the clubs family too." I reply

"I like the girls, they're funny and they understand what happened to me." Although she didn't give me details of what happened, from the scars on her body I know it was bad. They must've been trying to kill her, I'm amazed she survived the massive scar along her torso. I wonder what happened to the fuckers that did it? I'd be happy to pay them a little visit.

We sit in silence a while longer and when I look down I see she's fallen asleep. I slowly move down so I can lie her down and then pull my arm free, I move to roll out of bed but she pulls me back

"Please stay." She whispers

"Are you sure?" I ask and I feel her nod against my chest

"I feel safer in your arms." She adds before curling up against me. I wrap my arms around her and hold her close. This time I hear her breathing even out as she goes back to sleep.

I haven't held anyone since Lisa, the girls I slept with either left right after or slept next to me but never in my arms. Evie fits against me so perfectly, I just lie back and watch her sleep for a while, I wish she felt more confident about herself, hiding under these baggy clothes even though she's beautiful. Yes she has scars, but we all do. Maybe mine aren't as big as hers but they're there. It doesn't make her ugly it makes her a survivor. She's a lot stronger than she realises.

I rest my head on hers and close my eyes as I drift off to sleep feeling her warmth surrounding me.
