S E A N [ G R A P E ]
Morning came.
And however chaotic the night before had been, I knew that we couldn’t get distracted, so I sent TYBZI, H, and Straub out on a dawn exploration team mission. I gave them strict instructions to be back by dusk, and they agreed. Bayani, half to distract himself, I think, snagged Rusher and Dul and had them help finish the walls of the soon-to-be den/kitchen. And so I sat in the bedroom on the bed next to Tomahawk’s, the girl Ash across from me. Graser was trying to get some rest in another bed, as he hadn’t slept at all last night.
We sat in silence for moments that stretched on for an eternity before she broke it to say, “Thank you.”
I glanced at her. “For what? You’re the one who saved Tomahawk. We should be thanking you.”
She shook her head. “For taking me in. I’ve lived here, alone, for so long that I forgot what it was like to have other people in my life. It’s depressing, you know. Being by yourself all the time.” Her gaze connected with mine. “It’s true, I know things that I don’t know how I know, but it’s hard to put that knowledge to use going solo. Every step has to be carefully planned, or you’re screwed. But with other people to help…” she trailed off, turning her head to watch Tomahawk’s still body.
“Speaking of which,” I added, weary of pushing her too far. “What can you tell me about Pixel?”
She didn’t look at me, but instead began to speak. “Pixel began its development over twenty or so years ago. Scientist and expert Doctor Simmons had the idea, and she became the head of the operation. They began with small things: apples, books, and the like. But then it progressed to plants and living creatures, and a few weeks ago, I found that they’d tested an ape; it worked.” She shifted in place, obviously uncomfortable. “From what you told me, they released it publicly around a week later. But what they didn’t test was the ability to get out of the game: they only tested the way in.” She kicked her feet in frustration. “And so, you guys show up here.” A few minutes of quiet before she faced me again. “A lot of things about survival here I’ve picked up on my own through experience. Health, potions, food, etc. But some things I just know; and it scares me,” she admitted, staring at her hands and avoiding my eyes.
I leaned forward and placed my hand on her shoulder, the way Graser had the night before. She tensed a bit and raised her head to find my brown eyes searching her face intently.
“I have no more explanation than you do, Ash,” I told her gently. “But it’ll work out, I know it will. Speaking of which…” I sat back, my gaze drifting to Tomahawk. “Do you happen to know anything about how to get out of here?”
“All I know,” she stated slowly. “Is that to get out, you have to beat the game. But with a game like Minecraft…” She didn’t finish, but she didn’t have to; I understood.
I sighed. “We’ll figure it out, I suppose. For now, we just have to survive.” I stood and crouched by Tomahawk’s bed, checking his wounds again and rinsing them with the water bucket on the side table to keep them clean. “And support one another.”
Movement behind me, then a presence at my side. “You’re right, Grape,” she said, brushing Tomahawk’s hand lightly with her fingers. “If there’s one thing I do know for sure, it’s that none of us will make it out of here alone. But together…” she murmured. “It may be possible.”
I shifted so that I could see her. “Of course it’s possible. It has to be.”
She smiled grimly. “I hope for all of our sakes that you’re right. If not, we’re stuck here forever.”
“It’s possible,” I asserted, staring out the glass window at the sunlight shimmering on the lake’s water outside. “I know it is.”
This chapter was mostly filler, to provide more information about what's happening and to give Tomahawk some time to heal. xD
If you were paying close enough attention, the actual way to escape Pixel was revealed in this chapter. IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW HOW THE CUBE MEMBERS ARE GOING TO GET OUT, MESSAGE ME WHAT YOU THINK! If you're correct, I will make you cover art for your story! c:
. : CONTEST : .
I've been getting a bit bored, always writing by myself. I've seen some great collaboration fanfictions/stories here on Wattpad, and I'd love to experience that myself. But I don't want to collab with just anybody. I want to find someone with a writing style similar to my own, but with a whole new array of ideas. So here's the contest: if you're interested in doing a collab story/fanfic with me, send me a short little sample of your best writing in a message, and I'll read them all. The one I like the most, I'll do a collaboration with! *THE DEADLINE WILL BE NEXT SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH.* I look forward to seeing all of your great writing! :D
QUESTION OF THE CHAPTER:
What's your current or all-time favorite song? I want to find some new songs and I'd love to hear some recommendations! I'd have to say my all time favorite songs are The Scientist and Fix You by Coldplay, and Back to December and All Too Well by Taylor Swift, among other wonderful songs.
Vote and comment for more! Until next time!
