“Nice work, everyone,” I praised as we stood back, admiring our home. We’d finally completed the base: bedroom, storage room, kitchen, and living room, and it looked pretty good. Overall, I was pleased with the result, and everyone else seemed to be, too.
Straub and Rusher plopped down on the couches (which TYBZI and H had worked to build out of wool and some small wood planks), and I leaned against the wall as the others began to admire the new room.
Tomahawk came to stand next to me. “So what’s next on the agenda?”
I glanced at Grape, and we had a silent conversation. “Our next primary goal is probably to go to the nether, but for the time being it’s too risky. More supplies always work, but at this point I think we need to work on achieving diamond armor and supplies, enchanted, for everybody.” I met Grape’s eyes, and he nodded his agreement.
“Hey, guys?” came TYBZI’s voice from down the hallway. “I hear voices outside.”
I automatically swung my head to ask Ash, but she shook her head, equally confused: everybody was here at base at the moment. Who would be out there?
I stood up fully and jogged down the hallway, followed closely by H and Graser. The door was open, and TYBZI stood a few feet from the lake, his mouth open.
“TYBZI? What…?” I called, coming to join him, but my question trailed off when I noticed what he was looking at.
Reflected in the water were three very familiar faces. And they were speaking to each other, seemingly not noticing us.
“…three weeks. It’s weird, right?” commented Devon.
“Yeah,” Will agreed, running his fingers through his hair nervously. “Even Bayani won’t reply to my messages. It’s super strange.” I froze, now staring intently at the images in the water.
“I hope they’re okay,” fretted Bee, her face a mask of worry. “Straub won’t respond to me either.”
Devon shrugged. “You guys up for trying that Pixel thing out now? I mean, technically Graser opened it up three weeks ago.” Next to me, Graser stiffened, shaking his head wildly. I couldn’t help but side with him.
“Sure,” replied Bee in her musical voice. “I’ll open it now.”
“Same,” Will added, clicking a few things with his mouse.
I couldn’t take it. “No! Don’t do it! It’s not safe!” I screamed at the pictures desperately before H pulled me back, hand grasping my arm tightly.
But the people in the pictures froze. “Bayani?” Will questioned, sounding uncertain.
Hope blossomed in me. “Will! Can you hear me? Don’t log onto Pixel, it’s too dangerous!” I yelled, breaking away from H and leaning over the lake.
“Why not? What’s going on?” asked Devon, looking surprised and confused.
“We’re stuck here! There’s no way to leave!” I called hurriedly, worried that the connection would break at any moment. “Get help from the developers or something, but whatever you do, don’t get on yourself, or you’ll get trapped here along with us!”
“Okay, Bayani, calm down,” soothed Will, now appearing extremely focused. “Who’s there with you?”
H placed a hand on my shoulder, and I took a deep breath. “H, Graser, TYBZI, Grape, Straub, Dul, Tomahawk, and Rusher.” I left out Ash, knowing that none of them would know who she was.
“That explains why they weren’t responding,” offered Devon.
“Are you guys alright?” asked Bee with concern.
“We’re okay. We just don’t know how to get out,” H butted in, kneeling down next to me.
“Alright,” Will said. “I’ll get Parker to help me try to contact the creators and see if we can get you out of there. We can use this teamspeak to communicate, as it apparently goes through to your side. Until then, hold on, okay?”
“Okay,” I agreed, and Will nodded before the image of his face dissolved into the water, the color fading quickly. Devon and Bee were quick to follow. I was left staring at only the blue lake, surrounded by H, Graser, and TYBZI, the faces of our friends still burned into my vision.
This chapter was fun to write. I've been planning this one for a couple weeks. :D
