Hello everyone, and welcome back to Pixel! c:

I got plenty of feedback from you guys last chapter, and it seems that a lot of you would like me to stick to Cube, though most of you would also read anything else I write. Don't worry: I will be starting to stray away from Cube after this story, but I'm not completely leaving! I still have the contest story to write with my winner (and so far, the planning is going great!) and even something else...

In case you didn't see the message I sent out to my followers a few days ago, I do, in fact, have a little treat planned for you all! I'll likely release it around Halloween for a little gift ;) So you have that to look forward to!

Also, I made an Ask.Fm! You can ask me anonymously or tell me who you are, it doesn't matter, but you can ask me whatever you want (within reason, of course)! My link is ask.fm/CodeCherry

Back on topic... you guys are going to hate me again. Things are starting to get good >:)

“Hey, Jordan?” called H, sticking his head in the door.

I’d been sitting on Grape’s bed, talking tactics, but I glanced up when H said my name. “Yeah?”

“Will, Bee, Devon, and Parker are in the lake. They want to talk to you. You stay there,” he added when Grape moved to sit up. “They don’t want you to move. I told them what happened.”

“Sorry, man,” I apologized, standing up. “I’ll give you a full update when I get back.”

Grape looked slightly sour and frustrated with his injury, but he nodded, and I followed H out to the lake.

It was midday, and the sunlight sparkled on the water, sending reflections shimmering in its midst. A slight cool breeze weaved among us we neared the shore. Among the light, I could spot the four familiar faces through the ripples.

“Hi, guys,” I greeted, kneeling next to the lake. H patted me on the back and headed back into the base.

“Hey, Bayani,” replied Parker, but his voice was strained. Staring at the four of them, I noticed their grim expressions, particularly Will’s. That can’t be good.

I frowned. “What’s up?”

Parker cleared his throat. “Well, um, we got a response from the creators last night.”

I stiffened. “And?”

He shifted in his chair. “No luck. We’re on our own.” He sighed. “Real people pleasers, aren’t they?”

Something broke within me. “So we have to figure out how to escape on our own? Great.” I sat back on my heels, digging my fists into the damp dirt in frustration.

“That’s not all.” It was Will who spoke this time, his voice barely audible. “I had an attack last night.”

I froze. Will hadn’t had an attack since that night the week we’d met. It had been scary: he’d started screaming and shaking like he was having a seizure, and all I’d been able to do was yell his name through the Skype call. He’d told me they’d stopped after we’d become friends. That was months ago. To hear he’d had another one… “What? You haven’t had one in months!”

“I know. And this wasn’t the first time. I had one the day after you guys went under. Bee and Devon calmed me down. But I had another one last night, after Parker told me the creators weren’t going to help. It was the worst one I’ve ever had.” Tears were forming at the corners of his eyes, and he was struggling to stay calm. I listened intently. “I… I heard my sister. Screaming. Yelling at someone to take her instead of me. It was horrible. Then, suddenly, this pain shot through my left arm. I was running, surrounded by red, but I couldn’t tell where I was. I could hear someone around me, and then someone grabbed my other arm and pulled. Then the others woke me up.” He was silent, and I racked my brain. Why did that sound so familiar?

“Holy crap, Will,” I said out loud. “It sounds like you’re having visions or something.”

He shook his head, hair falling in his eyes. “I don’t know. I never want to experience anything like that ever again.” To my surprise, he was shaking slightly. Sympathy flooded through me, and I knew inside me that I would’ve gone insane if that had happened to me. I knew Will was strong, but…

“Everyone’s okay, though?” prompted Bee, obviously wanting to change the subject, as the mood had grown tense.

I nodded. “Graser was the worst, but he’s progressing. So are Grape and…” I trailed off, remembering that I hadn’t told the others about Ash.

“And…?” asked Devon, and I mentally cursed for letting myself slip.

Sighing, I replied, “There’s a girl. She’s the one who saved Tomahawk from the mobs a while ago. She’s been with us ever since. She was part of the nether patrol.”

A brief quiet. “Why didn’t you tell us?” questioned Parker.

“It didn’t seem worth troubling you with. She means nothing to you.”

“Every life is worth the same, and worth saving,” quoted Bee, and I smiled, recognizing it.

“I think Grape and I have a plan…”

~ TIME SKIP ~

“You okay, Ash? You’re awfully quiet,” Graser pointed out, concerned, as we ate dinner in the bedroom once again.

Ash snapped her head up, looking dazed, as if she’d been lost in thought. “What? Oh, sorry. Just thinking about something.”

The others shrugged and brushed it off, continuing to talk normally. But I watched Ash.

Something about her had changed since last night. Her posture was slouched, her muscles stiffer, and there was a new sheen to her eyes. She ate her food mechanically. I frowned.

That night, as we attempted to drift into sleep, I could hear her continually shifting in the bed to my left. She was muttering something, over and over, and finally I realized it was a name.

Will.

... I'm so sorry. I had to.

QUESTION OF THE CHAPTER:

Just out of curiosity... how many of you know what I look like? I have tons of pictures on my Twitter, but not everybody follows me. Not that it matters xD
