Eilidh and I walk along the corridor at school, one of our last weeks as a sixth year pupil then it's off to become a student at Glasgow Universtiy. Of course we were attendng the same university, we were best friends. We were both interseted in the same things. For example we both loved reading, we can never put our kindles down! Our favourite class is English. I want to be a writer of some sort, and Eilidh wants to be a photographer. I love art, but I'm not so interested in the photography side of it. That's another reason we get along so well- when I draw something, she recognises my talent.
Eilidh and I are deep in conversation when there is a hard nudge against my shoulder. I stumble backwards but catch myself before falling over. I look behind me to see Jessica smirking at me. Jessica is known as Miss. Popularity at our school, but to Eilidh and I she is known as the school bitch. For years she's picked on me for no reason at all. To say the least I am getting tired of it all. Why couldn't she just leave me alone?
Eilidh follows my gaze and scrunches up her face in disgust. "Just ignore her."
I nod in return and lower my gaze to the ground. It isn't always that easy to ignore someone that hates you for no reason. I see her giving me a concerned look, so I look her in the eyes and give her the brightest smile I could. She smiles in return.
"So in total, we have about twenty-five entries in the One Direction contest? I mean including our families entries."
I nod. "I reckon we stand a pretty good chance at winning," I say sarcastically.
Eilidh completely misses the sarcasm in my voice and replies, "Yeah, I think we do."
I just shake my head at her, not wanting to spoil her little fantasy. But unlike her I was very realistic, and no matter how many entries we had, I knew it wouldn't be enough. There are millions of fans out there that have probably entered, we stand no chance of winning.
"Hi!" Zoe says excitedly to us. Before we even have a chance to reply she is talking again. "Thanks so much for telling me about that One Direction contest. I just hope I win! I want to meet Zayn," she giggles.
"No problem," we both reply.
"So anyway, who will you guys take if you win?" she asks, not at all obvious about what she was hinting at. She wanted us to take her with us.
"Don't worry, we would be taking you Zo," I laugh.
She gives us both a hug,"Thanks, I will take you two as well!"
We nod our appreciation as she waves bye to us and disappears round the corner just as the bell rings.
Eilidh and I walk to registration class together. Although we weren't in the same registration class, we were both on the same floor. We were talking about more serious matters, like how much we were going to miss our families when we went away to university. We said our goodbyes as we headed our separate ways.
As soon as I walk through the door, the second bell rings, signalling that if we aren't already in class we are late. I sit beside Natasha and gave her a smile. "Hey."
"Hey, how are you?" she asks tiredly.
I give a small laugh as I reply, "Fine, but you don't look to good."
"Well, thanks," she mumbles. "I didn't get much sleep last night, wasn't feeling too great. Mum forced me to go to school this morning."
She begins to cough repeatedly and I feel truly sorry for her, as long as she didn't give it to me. "Do you want a soother?" I offer. I always kept a packet in my bag just incase.
"Nah, I've got thanks."
"Here!" I call out as my name is read. "Maybe you should go to the nurse, you look really unwell. Your face is as white as a sheet."
"I'll be fine," she groans I roll my eyes at her. If I was feeling like that I would have simply refused to go to school.
Natasha sniffles and lays her head against the desk, her long brown hair spilling over the edge of the table. "You sure don't look fine."
"Go away," she mutters. The bell rings for us to go to our next class and Natasha lets out a groan as she pulls herself up and shuffles out the door. I have to stifle a laugh. This might have been the overreaction of the century. Someone's got a case of the man flu. I laugh at my own pathetic joke.
I wait for Eilidh at the end of the corridor, but before she arrives there is a sight that scares me half to death- Jessica. She has one friend that follows her around like a shadow, but she can't see that Jessica is just using her. Every time I see April I just want to tell her the truth, but I know she would never believe me.
I look away in fear as Jessica's gaze lands upon me and an evil smile creeps up onto her lips. I swear my heart stops for a moment, but returns to its steady beat when Eilidh appears by my side. If it wasn't for Eilidh, I would never be able to face school each morning, just because of that one evil girl. All because of Jessica.
