As Eilidh and I entered the social centre the next day, all eyes darted towards us. They had seen our little screaming fit yesterday and wanted to know what was going on. We had all decided that it was best to keep winning the contest a secret. We didn't want girls suddenly becoming friends with us, just to get their hands on a ticket.

My eyes glance around at all the people that were now staring at me, when my eyes are suddenly drawn towaards somebody whispering rather loudly. No doubt, it is Jessica. Probably spreading rumours about me as usual. I don't care if everyone seems to think I should stand up to her, I was never going to do that again. I didn't really feel like being choked to death.

Jessica notices me staring at her and her eyes narrow on mine as she pulls her lips back from her teeth, snarling. I quickly divert my gaze to the floor. I couldn't afford to make another mistake like that. I actually wanted to live my life.

Nevermind, in a couple of weeks, I would be off to university in Glasgow, which is far enough away from where she was going. I would have my best friend with me, I would be learning more about my favourite subject and I would be living my dream.

"You do realize evryone's staring, right?" I whisper to Eilidh, strutting her stuff through the social centre. I felt the need to ask her since she was acting like she hadn't noticed at all.

She looks at me and smiles. "Yeah, but I just don't care. And neither should you."

I roll my eyes at her. I am nowhere near as confident with myself as Eilidh is. She is pretty and has almost every boy in our year fawning over her. She is slim, has long, red hair and a face to die for. To be honest, I had no idea why she is even friends with me. I don't consider myself to be pretty or skinny and I'm certainly not doing anything to boost her popularity.

When Eilidh had gotten a boyfriend, I thought she would ditch me to be with him. But she had proved me wrong and stayed with me almost every lunch. There was the occasional lunch she would spend with him, but I still had Zoe and Natasha.

Eilidh is a wonderful girl and I'm so lucky and grateful to have her as my best friend.

As though reading my thoughts, Eilidh scowls at me. "Rebecca, you are beautiful. Why can't you see that?" I scoff at her in response. She rolls her eyes at me and continues, "If you would just open your eyes, you would see that you catch the attention of a lot of boys too."

She nods her head over to Jessica's table. I turn to see Nathan staring at me. I flush and look away, back to face Eilidh. "He doesn't count. He's only looking at me becuase he thinks I'm a freak after crying in front of him yesterday."

Now it was Eilidh's turn to scoff. "That isn't a mocking stare, Rebecca, that is an intense stare. It's like he's trying to figure you out. Like he wants to get to know you better. Maybe you should let him."

"Don't think I feel like being murdered by Jessica, thank you very much."

She rolls her eyes at me. "I'm just saying, he looks like he's interested. Believe me I know that look well. That's the same look Bradley gave me."

I shake my head at her, not wanting to carry on the conversation. Bradley is her boyfriend and he is an incredibly nice person. When I first spoke to him, I instantly felt bad. You see, I had thought he was a total asshole just because of the people he hung out with. He turned out to be really friendly and the first one of Eilidh's boyfriends to ever notice me. All the rest were busy ogling Eilidh, which I didn't appreciate at all. She isn't a toy that you can just play with.

In fact, that happened to be the reason for one of Eilidh and I's biggest fights. She once dated this boy, Jack, who couldn't stop staring at her chest. That really annoyed me since Eilidh hadn't noticed at all. He then proceeded to check out my chest when Eilidh wasn't looking. So after I saw him making out with another girl, I lost it. I didn't want my best friends feelings to get hurt so I pucnhed him right in the face... and broke his nose.

Eilidh wouldn't speak to me for a week, wouldn't even let me explain the situation to her. Well, she soon understood why I did that, because she did exactly the same when she happened to run into him kissing another girl.

Of course, Eilidh came straight to me and cried. She wouldn't stop apologising, even though I told her it was all right. Maybe that's why I'm her friend, because I'm someone who you can trust, depend on and I have a very forgiving nature.

I don't know why she is friends with me, but I shouldn't be questioning it because somehow I got her as my best friend, and I wasn't about to let her go.
