AUTHOR'S NOTE
The next few chapters revolve around HYDRA. Because of this, there are a few fight scenes and some descriptions of events and injuries some people might be upset by. You can just skip those few paragraphs, but just thought I'd mention it here.

~Amelie's POV~

The handle of the third door on the left of the second floor was cold, freezing my hand as I pushed it open. I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I opened it, but an office wasn't it. A long table spread the length of the room whilst the walls were covered with filing cabinets, with one wall left empty. An array of screens were set up on the blank wall and end of the table, making faint whirring noises.

My arm continued to ache, but carrying the heavy gun was making my right arm achy too. My legs were tired and my whole body was screaming for me to sit and rest, but the sight of the tall, dark haired man relaxing on the end of the table made me furious, and want to push on further.

"You found me? Didn't take too long did it? Oh, and you found a gun!" The mans lips stretched into a hauntingly fake smile, his eyes cold as he watched me stagger forwards.

I leant down, using the gun as a type of rest so my body could have something to lean on. "You weren't hard to find." I muttered, levelling my gaze with him.

A flicker of something flashed across his eyes, before he straightened his posture and crossed his arms, leaning back against the desk. "You're interesting."

I just tilted my chin up, not wanting to lose eye contact. A quick scan of my surroundings showed me no immediate threat, and I hoped if I were to stall him long enough then I would be able to leave alive when the others found me.

If they found me.

"You're strong." His voice broke into my thoughts, and I pushed my shudder of revulsion away as he twisted his head to the side. "Very strong. That could work."

"You want me to be a wonder."

"Not me," His chuckle was too deep, too sincere for what I knew was going to be a disturbing conversation. "No, I want to break you to serve me. Everyone else, it seems, believe you're a wonder."

His words swam around my head. I didn't want to focus on what he wanted to personally use me for, so pushed the thought away, but for some reason I felt like he wasn't going to hurt me. Physically, at least, and not at the moment. Time will tell, and if I was to be trapped here for longer than a few days I suspected my injuries would only increase.

"And you don't believe them."

"I wasn't always in charge here." He pushed himself off the desk, and took slow, careful steps to reach me. "My first year, ten years ago, I was monitoring Sergeant Barnes. A fine man, but nothing... special."

He walked closer, his eyes locked on mine as I tried but failed to take a step away. "I was to clean him up after his missions. He was smart to never get too much blood on him, but if they were messy then I needed to wipe it off."

He began to walk around me, pausing at my side as I stood looking forward. "One day I found a mark. It wouldn't be surprising if it was a bruise, or even a small cut. But a glittery pink heart on our deadly assassins arm? Something wasn't right."

He was now behind me, his body too close to mine. If he pushed a hand to my back I would fall forwards, especially as I couldn't wave my left arm out for balance. "I investigated, and realised... he had a soulmate."

I bit my lip. Breathe in, breathe out. Keep breathing steady, don't let his words bother you.

"I was surprised when I saw you that first time. You were wearing a little yellow sundress, playing with your family in that park. Who would have thought the Winter Soldier's soulmate would only be ten years old?"
