~Third Persons POV~
"Who are you?" Nat raised an eyebrow as she looked at Tom who was stood awkwardly by the closed lift doors.
"I'm Tom."
"Who's Tom?" Clint piped up from his seat by the sofas.
"Him." Nat pointed.
"Me." He confirmed.
Bruce gave him a sympathetic look as Clint twisted his head back to look at him.
"But who are you?"
"Tom." Tom answered, confused by their line of questioning.
Bruce rolled his eyes as he lifted the stone plant pot from its home by the lifts, and carried it to the kitchen. Tom watched him leave with a sense of worry, not too sure how to cope with two superheroes questioning his identity.
"How do you know Amelie?" Nat asked, her head tilted to the side as her eyes took in the details of his face and dark curling hair.
"How does who know Amelie?" Peter asked, appearing at Toms side through the stairwell door. He flicked his gaze to the newcomer, and slight recognition dawned on his face. "Tom?"
"I'm Tom." By now Tom was thoroughly confused, watching as Bruce reappeared from the kitchen without the plant pot.
Peter twisted his head to the side. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm sorry, I don't know who you are." Tom cringed a little, aware that the man next to him was the only person in the room he didn't recognise from comic books and television shows.
"Tom." Bucky's voice sliced through the line of questioning, but instead of relief at hearing his great-uncles voice, Tom only felt a wave of worry.
He spun to face him, watching as Bucky stood in front of him. "Is Amelie okay?"
"She will be." His eyes softened a little, but Tom noticed the slight grind of his jaw. "Why were you in the lift?"
Peters eyes widened as he twisted back to see the closed lift doors, then caught Bucky's tense stance. "Amelie was in the lift?"
Tom noted the panicked edge of his voice, and looked around the room. Nat and Clint were stood by the sofas, eyes not leaving his as Bruce produced a box of supplies and set about cleaning the remains of Amelies short trip in the lifts.
Tom sucked in a breath, then felt the nerves take over. "I was at the physio and Amelie came out and asked me to lunch. She said you guys would've made something nice. And then she got panicky at the lift and I asked if she was okay but she... I don't even know. I thought she was just claustrophobic but-"
His ramblings were cut short by Bucky's growl of frustration. Nat shot him a glare over, and shook her head at him. "я не знаю кто он, но это не его вина." (I don't know who he is, but it's not his fault.)
Bucky twisted his head over his shoulder, fingers gripping his hair as Tom stood horrified, fixed in place by the lift doors. "она не должна была быть там." (She shouldn't have been there.)
Nat marched over and placed a hand on his shoulder. Bucky reluctantly let himself be led away from the group and into the kitchen, away from Tom who was almost shaking with nerves of upsetting the man he'd idolised as a young child.
"Tom?" Bruce asked, after putting the cleaning products away. "Why don't I make us a drink?"
Tom nodded, and sat at the small table as Bruce entered the kitchen. Sitting in silence, Tom, Peter and Clint heard the hushed voices from the kitchen before Bruce entered the room with two mugs of steaming tea.
