It was dark when I arrived, but it was even more beautiful. Everyone walking past me in a hurry to get wherever they were going. I smiled and breathed in the air. Maybe it wasn't as fresh or nice-smelling as the country side was, but it was the smell of my new home and I already loved it.
I walked off to my apartment. When I arrived at the address, I could already tell that the place was shit and it was dangerous. But it was home. I just had to keep telling myself that one day I will move out of here and get a better place. This was home. This was home. This was-
"Y/n L/n," I smiled at the person behind the desk. They handed me a key to room 247, but not before glaring at me. I gave them a weak smile before heading down the hall of flickering lights and up the steep stairs.
For a place that seemed so lively, everyone seemed so...well, dead, I guess was really the only way to describe it. I wasn't going to let these crackheads pull me down, though. I wasn't going to let anything disrupt my dreams of moving here. I have wanted this for such a long time. Nothing can stop me.
I was glad that my job hired me, and that I was the one to go here. That one person who was going to make a living in the biggest city in all of Ninjago. I was happy. Happier than happy.
I smiled as I finished the three flights of stairs I had to wander up. I found my apartment and pushed the key in the lock, hearing a satisfying click as I opened the door.
It was smaller than a hotel room. Much, much smaller.
I sighed at the sight, neither happy or sad. Just neutral. As if I was coming home already. This was it. It was simply a bed and a desk and a chair. That was it.
And I fell in love with the tiny space. It was like my childhood bedroom. I could make it my own. Maybe it didn't have all the space in the world, or the best view (it had a view of a brick wall), but I had to learn to love it. I was raised on a farm, so all my time was spent outside.
I wouldn't have felt anymore at home. This was it. I didn't care where I lived or what jerk I met while I was here...I was-
"FUCKING AWESOMEEEEEEE!"
Who the fu-
"YEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHYEAHHHHHHHH!"
Next door? Ugh, neighbors. I went to the room next to mine, where the noise was coming from.
I knocked on the door. "Excuse me?" I managed to squeal out.
"FUCKKKKKYESSSSSSSSSS!"
"Excuse me?! Please open up!" I knocked harder on the door. I didn't get any response except for more loud 'fucks' and 'shit this is so fucking awesome'.
I knocked harder, and harder, and harder until the blindingly loud music came to a halt and the door swung open, revealing a female who was much, much taller than me and was wearing a Beatles t-shirt accompanied by a pair of grey baggy sweatpants.
I bit my lip. She had brown hair and her fierce blue eyes sent a snarl my way. I cringed, but put on my brave face anyway. "Excuse me, um, my name's Y/n, and I just moved in next door. I'd really appreciate it if you lowered down the music and let me have a few days to settle in, then you can blast your music however loud you'd like."
The woman looked at me and smile sweetly. "Of course. I'm sorry, I am very much aware of how loud my music can be but no one usually stops me from playing it. Either the person next door will be dead or moving out."
I nodded at her awkward greeting. "Uh...huh," I said quietly.
"Oh, my apologies...again," her laugh was kind and soft, like a fluffy cloud that she was super bouncy or something. "My name is Anezka. Anezka Petrah Kane."
"Anezka?"
She nodded, smiling widely. "The meaning of the name is gentle, although I have no idea how it suits me," Anezka said, glancing behind her at her messy bed sheets, rock band posters and closed curtains. Her room looked like an emo high school boy's room. Even worse: emo middle school boy.
I grinned lightly at her. "Y-yeah," my laugh towards her was delicate because I knew for a fact that she was at least two years older than me.
I was about to walk away when Anezka grabbed my hand. "Hey, Y/n. Hold up a minute."
YOU HAVE PEPPER SPRAY FOR A REASON Y/N. SHE'S GONNA ATTACK YOU SO GET READY TO PULL IT OUT AND-
"You new to this are of town?" Anezka asked, flipping me around and locking my eyes with hers.
"New to the city, actually," I said as firm as I could.
"Why don't I take you to the bar just around the block for a drink or something? You look old enough to be having a couple."
I waved a hand at her in dismissal, shaking my head as violently as I dared. "N-no, I'm really okay I-"
"Consider it my apology for being so loud and a welcome into your new home." She smiled, dimples pressing into her rosy cheeks.
"I'm really okay-"
"See you 8:30. I'll be in my room." Then Anezka released my arm and went back into her room. The silence engulfed me. Sure, I really do appreciate her effort in trying to make me feel as welcome as possible, but I thought that I told her that I just wanted a few more days to myself to settle in.
I rolled my eyes. "Fine," I muttered to myself, "see you at 8:30."
I went back to my room, dragging my tired feet behind myself. I felt my body getting heavier and heavier, and I hand't gotten a second of sleep since I left to catch the train at how early I woke up this morning.
I collapsed on my bed and checked the time on my phone. That sneaky clever little bitch. It was 8:29.
