Unworthy of Your Love - Ben Platt ft. Zoey Deutch

I usually listen to the chapter song on loop until I finish the chapter for a better understanding, but I apologize if this one is a bit wonky because this time I was listening to the Death Note theme song, Attack on Titan theme, and Demon Slayer theme, and occasionally, the MHA theme. Apologies.

I pressed a cool cloth to Kai's forehead. We had stumbled our way back to my apartment a few hours ago. As soon as we arrived, Kai passed out, his legs giving out from beneath him. He had collapsed onto my couch and remained there as I tended to him.

I assumed he had an oncoming fever, because his tan cheeks started gaining a pink tinge, and his temperature was hot, even for the master of fire.

Kai had been asleep for the past few hours, so, as much as it bothered me, I was going to have to let him stay the night. I got up and washed the cloth under cold water from the sink. When I was younger, whenever I started feeling a fever, or even a cold coming on, my mother would press a cold cloth to my forehead and my stomach. It pissed me off, but I was better in a day or so.

I quietly snatched another cloth from a cabinet and rinsed it under cool water before silently padding my way back to Kai's side. Folding the first cloth, I gently set it atop his warm forehead. I lifted his shirt and pressed the other cold cloth onto his stomach.

I recoiled as soon as I heard him suck in a sharp breath. I looked up at him to see him swiping the cloth off of his forehead.

"No," I muttered. I stood and put the cloth back on his head. "Keep it on. You're really warm."

"Where are we?"

"My place. You collapsed as soon as you got here. You were asleep until now."

"What the fuck are you doing?" He asked as I started putting the cloth on his stomach. He winced when the cool fabric rested on his stomach. "It's so cold, asshat."

"Don't you 'asshat' me, Mister Drunk. I just saved your ass back there, and now I'm taking care of you. You owe me one."

"I owe a lot of people a lot of things."

"Like what?"

"Favors."

"Just favors?"

"Mhm."

I made my way over to the kitchen to grab him a glass of water. Upon my way back, Kai started trying to sit up. "Hey." I hurriedly set the water down on the coffee table beside the couch he was resting on and placed my hands to his arms, easing him back onto the couch. "Take it easy, Kai. You've been through a lot tonight."

"I've been through worse."

"But I can handle-"

"Listen to me, okay? You collapsed when we arrived here. You couldn't even walk on the way back. You need to rest, and most of all, drink water. You've been exerting so much energy tonight; you're bound to collapse again tomorrow." I grabbed the glass of water and tipped it to his lips. He tried to pry my hands away, but I forced the cup forwards, letting the water fall into his mouth.

"Drink," I demanded. Once I pulled the cup away, he wiped his mouth.

"If you call me babe, I might just listen." He let a cheeky smile across his face.

I felt my cheeks flush red. "No," I snapped, tipping the glass to his lips again. All he did was pull it away every single time I tried to press it to his face again. "Kai," I snapped. "You aren't going to think straight if you don't drink this right now."

He just stared at me, blank eyes, a smile on his face, pushing the cup down.

I rolled my eyes, bringing the cup back up to his face. "Fine, babe."

Kai smirked and took the cup, bringing it to his lips on his own and gulping the remainders of it down. He handed the glass back to me, smiling, his amber eyes drooping with tiredness.

"Is there anything else I can get for you before you pass out again?" I laughed, standing and placing the cup in the sink.

"Cuddles?"

"NO."

"Pwease?" He begged, putting his hands together in a mockery of prayer. Glaring at him, I shot him a hard no again.

Kai pressed the back of his hand to his forehead, feigning distress. "Then I shall sadly never recover from this deadly disease, madame. Please carry on, and do not spend too much time mourning over my death." His words were slurred together in a bad English accent.

"You're not going to die, princess." I started my way back over to him, sitting on the floor.

"Give me a valid reason not to." He groaned in his normal voice, letting his hand fall off of his face.

"Because I'm gonna take care of you, dummy." I readjusted the cloth on his forehead, jumping out of my skin when Kai snatched my wrist.

"Thanks," he muttered.

"Of course," I let out a breathy chuckle, color staining my cheeks. I eased his neck onto a pillow. "Just rest for tonight, okay? I promise you can piss me off as much as you want tomorrow. I'll even let that happen. Only if your rest, though."

"But I can only rest if you cuddle me. Hehe."

"Kai, okay. First of all, I don't want whatever virus you have or if going to attack your systems, and second of all-"

My head was resting on his chest. Kai had pulled my head down, and now here I was: sitting cross-legged with my head on his chest, and him gently stroking my hair. "Um...Kai, I do think that you should rest-ah?" I tilted my head up to meet his gaze. His eyes were shut, his breathing heavy and slow.

I guess he did need me to fall asleep.
