Dodie - She

We continued to walk for a while, my memories of the day drifting just a little too far from my mind. It occurred to me that I had no idea where we were headed.

"Um..." I began, my fingers twitching with anxiety. "Where are we going?"

Kai stopped, turning towards me. "I was just following you."

"I was following you."

"See? We even share a brain cell. Proof we're meant to be together."

I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "Just because we had the same thought doesn't prove anything at all."

"Have we grabbed coffee yet?"

"I'm pretty sure we did."

We stood in silence for a while before Kai stated, "Well, if is my trial week. I really do want to make you fall in love with me."

I raised an eyebrow at him. "Really?"

"Truthfully. Wanna go see a movie?"

"There aren't any movies to see. Not any that we'd both want to see, anyway."

Kai shrugged. "That's part of being a couple. You see great things and you see horrible things. So let's go see a really good movie or a really sad movie or a really stupid movie, or just a bad movie in general. You can choose."

"I don't want to choose."

"Don't be indecisive. Choose. Part of the reason people are indecisive is because they're shy to say what they actually want. So tell me what you want, and I'll make it happen."

I sighed, pressing my lips together. I didn't want to tell him that he couldn't make everyone happy because he himself seemed so happy at the moment, so I rolled my eyes once more and playfully glared at him. "Let's go see the worst movie ever with the shittiest popcorn ever."

Kai smiled at me, a child hiding behind his sad, wonder-filled amber eyes. "But the drinks have to be good, because those are how they get you with the money. Drinks are always the most expensive."

I nodded in agreement as our legs began to move in the direction of the theater. "No lie there."

Kai looked at me, his eyes softening. "Now, Y/n, why would I ever lie to you?"

He, in complete and utter honesty, wouldn't lie to her. This girl. This magical, wonderful girl who saved him when he thought that nothing was worth saving anymore. This girl that suddenly meant the world to him. The girl who suddenly and delicately crafted a new view of the world for him.

He didn't mind waiting for her. No. Not at all. He would wait for her to make her decisions, and he would wait for her to get ready in the mornings.

And he would love her. Call it a strong crush on a new acquaintance , but he knew what loving someone felt like. And he was falling fast.

He would admire her from afar or close up and wait and wait and wait until she would call him her prince.

Maybe he was a fool to hope that she would love him just as much right now, but he wasn't a fool to be falling for her. He knew it. He had said that many times before, but he knew that she was it for him. No more crying at night, no more clinging to his pillow and wishing it was a person instead. No more tears.

No more tears.

The movie? Horror. How was it? Disgusting with a weak story line. Kai and I had a good laugh about it afterwards. It would have been a good movie if the graphics weren't so...well, graphic. And there was barely a story and fifty percent of the script was moaning and screaming.

I told Kai where I lived and he walked me home.

The air around me was chilly, but something seemed to warm me up. But just me. No one and nothing else. The leaves from the trees twirled to the ground as one more day of summer passed and Fall came creeping closer around the corner.

We stopped before my apartment, lingering before the door.

My eyes drifted up to meet Kai's. I smiled softly. "Thanks. I had a great time today." I reached for the doorknob, but Kai's hand met mine, stopping me from opening the door.

Our eyes clashed once more. Something lingered in his. Something desperate. His grip on my hand loosened. "Thank you. For...you know. Saving my life and all." He looked down, smiling shyly.

I grinned before lifting myself onto my toes and pressing a light kiss to his cheek. I dashed inside before Kai could say anything else.
