"What did your teacher say about the card and chocolate?" I asked Mazey over the phone. Rose had gotten her from school this past week I hardly get to see her anymore.
"She liked it and she said thank you." Mazeys little voice said over the phone. "Did you get anything for Valentines Day?" She asked.
"My boss gave me a card and a box of chocolate." I told her it was the same thing every year and everyone got one.
"I'll make you a card." She said excitingly.
"That's fine, I have you and thats enough." I smiled over the phone.
"Are you coming home tonight?" She asked.
"Yes, I have missed my bed." I said cracking my neck I have not been home in two days.
"You promise?" She asked.
"I promise and I'll try to come early." I said.
"Alright, Marie is here I'm going to play." She sounded really excited. Marie was Rose's daughter and Rose was staying with her until I came home. I had to pay her extra because she had her own family at home waiting for her but she understood. If she didn't have a family I would ask her to move in full time.
"Alright, I love you." I told her.
"I love you too." She said then hung up. I closed the phone and sighed.
"I love you too." I heard a voice behind me and turned to see Dr. Heart.
"Stalking is illegal." I told him resting my head on the couch back.
"I am not stalking you." He defended drinking his apple juice.
"Don't you have better things to do?" I asked.
"All my patients are recovering well and will be discharged soon." He shrugged.
"So no." I answered my own question.
"Oh, I got you something." He took a red rose from behind his back.
"How thoughtful, thank you." I took the rose and smelled it.
"Finally did something right." He smiled.
"I love flowers." I smiled at the single rose.
"I know you don't have plans on Valentines Day, so do you want to go out as colleagues?" He asked.
"I don't think it's a good idea to actually see each other outside of the hospital." I said.
"It's not a date its just too co-workers going out to eat and talk about surgical experience." He continued.
"It's a bad idea." I said standing from the couch.
"Fine." He sighed in defeat.
"Thanks again for the rose." I left the room.
"So I got you a date." Trish came into step beside me.
"Date for what?" I asked.
"Valentines Day." She said.
"I'm not going I have plans." I lied.
"With whom?" she asked.
"Mazey." I told her.
"No I love Mazey but I love you more you need to finally get laid." She almost yelled.
"I will not be getting laid I will be keeping my legs closed." I said.
"Whatever so Bryan's best friend is in town and this friend got his heart broken his fiancé left him at the altar for another girl." She said excitedly.
"The poor guy he must be devastated thats just twisted." I said generally hurt for the guy.
"It happened last year and this guy is ready to move on with his life and put his ex behind him." She continued. "He is really handsome. Please, I am begging just come and if you don't like him you never have to see him again." She was tugging my jacket and jumping.
"Just one date." Mazey will be crushed. I sighed.
"She's six buy her sweets she'll get over it." She shrugged.
"I pity your children." I laughed.
"You can wear that white dress I got you for Christmas you'll look smoking hot." She said with an abnormally large smile. "I guarantee it will be on the floor in the tight after he rips it off and makes mad love to you." She was getting mad.
"That will not happen." I told her.
"Your thing is really blocking our relationship conversations you know." She whispered.
"I still have my thing because I'm waiting on the right guy." I whispered.
"You aren't getting any younger." She said.
"I know but I'd rather die and unmarried maiden than an unmarried tramp." I said.
"You calling me a tramp?" She asked she looked hurt.
"Never, I just meant I don't want to have sex with a guy and he isn't planning on staying around." I said.
"I understand but you aren't living." She said.
"Then what am I doing?" I asked.
"You're blowing through the wind like paper." She said.
"I am not, so are you living?" I asked her.
"I'm trying I don't want to be on my death bed with What ifs." She answered.
"I understand." I sighed.
"Good your head is like a rock." She patted my head.
"Whatever." I smiled.
"Who gave you the rose?" She asked.
"Don't make a big deal out of it." I sighed.
"I won't."
"Dr. Heart gave it to me then he asked me out." I said really fast but she caught every word.
"Oh My God you said yes right? "
"No, I didnt its not right going out with co-workers." I told her.
"To hell whats right. Do you want to go out with him?" She asked and I didn't really know how to answer that.
"No, he's a jerk so no." I was trying to convince myself.
"Liar but if it makes you feel better to continue lying to yourself." She said.
"It's not a lie" I defended.
"Sure." She said. "Whatever makes you sleep at night. Well, I have to go so I'll talk to you later." She said turning away going back to her ward.
"It's not a lie, is it?" I asked myself looking down at the rose.
