Mazey and I were matching from head to toe, it wasn't intentional. We had gone to the mall to get a few things and I had seen the dress and loved it and when I went into the store to try it on Mazey said she wanted one just like it so I bought her one too. I told her we were going out to eat with my friends from college and she said she wasn't going to come if we didn't dress alike. So we ended up dressing alike and I had to admit we looked super cute.
"Mazey you look adorable." Eric knelt down in front of her.
"Thank you." She grinned at him, so cute.
He got up and looked at me. My heart beating abnormally fast for some reason. "You look very nice Kasey-Ann." He said. My mouth opened but nothing came out and Mazey looked up at us confused as to what was happening.
"Aunt Kasey? Are you okay?" She questioned and I looked away from Eric's piercing eyes.
"Yes I'm okay." I said. "We better get going." I said and she held my hands.
"Eric I'll carry back something for you." She said to him.
"Thanks Mazey." He said and her cheeks turned pink I think she had a little crush on Eric. Very adorable. He walked us to the door and he waited until we drove away before closing the door. The restaurant was a few miles away and it took us an hour before we arrived. Mazey had fallen asleep and I woke her once we were at the restaurant. She held my hand as we walked in the building looking for the group of old friends.
"Annie." Someone called and I looked in the direction and saw the group all sitting around a large table. Mazey was looking at the fish tank talking to the fishes.
"Mazey, let's go." I said and she held on to my hand and waved bye to the fishes.
"Can I have a goldfish?" She asked.
"Okay." What harm could it do at least she hadn't asked for a dog or a cat. We reached the group and they greeted us. "Everyone this is Mazey-Ann." I said leading her from behind me where she had been hiding.
"She looks exactly like you." Emma said smiling at her. "If I didn't know better I would say that she is your daughter." She continued looking between Mazey and I. "Hi Mazey." She smiled at her. "I'm Emma." Mazey smiled.
"I'm Mazey and I'm six." She let go of my hand.
"You're adorable." Emma said.
"I thought more children would be here." I said.
"They will be here soon." She said. "Meanwhile Mazey can sit with us." She pulled out and chair and I helped Mazey climb on, she was a little for the table so she sat in my lap. The other children came and none of them were Mazey's age they were teenagers.
"Can I go and look at the fishes again?" Mazey asked.
"Yes." She slipped off my lap. "Stay close." I said and she skipped away.
"So Annie..." Emma trailed.
"What?" I asked.
"Is there a man in your life?" She asked.
"Nope." I answered.
"Why not?" She asked. "Wait are you gay?" She questioned lifting her eyebrow.
"No I'm not." I answered.
"So what is it?" She asked.
"I'm just not interested in anyone." I lied.
"Liar. That heart doctor he is digging you like a dog in heat." She said and I laughed and sipped the orange juice.
