It has been a week since Valentine's Day and I was in a good mood. Until the flyer that Trish put up started getting responses. Now everywhere I went either Residents or Interns were asking me for a room. I couldn't eat lunch in peace.
"Dr. Gold I'm a very clean person." A resident was behind me.
"I'm at lunch don't provoke me." I hissed at sat with Trish who was not being provoked by these people.
"Please." He begged behind me.
"Do you want to be stuck with bumps and boils?" I questioned and he backed away.
"What's happening?" She asked.
"Everyone wants somewhere to live." I said. "I only have room for three people." I said and well it wasn't as quiet as I thought because again they came rushing in. "Provoke me and no one gets it." I hissed and got up with my lunch. I stormed out of the cafeteria and bumped into someone my lunch spilling on the floor. "Just my luck." I bent down to pick up the particles and someone bent down with me as well.
"Are you okay?" He asked. I looked at the person it was Eric and my heart felt a little jolt. How odd.
"I'm okay." I said picking up the last of my lunch from the floor and throwing it in the bin. I left him and walked back to my ward getting a few snacks from the vending machine. I sat in my office trying to get some sleep when the door opened. I looked up and there he was again but this time with food.
"Is it okay if I come in?" he asked.
"Yea." I said and he did and closed the door with his food.
"I brought you lunch." He smiled.
"You didn't have to." I said as he put the box in front of me.
"I know, but you must be hungry. You have been in surgery all morning." He said and I looked at him strangely. How did he know I was in surgery all morning?
"Are you stalking me again?" I asked, but this time a joke.
"No. I had heart surgery in the OR beside yours." He said and I opened the box and smiled and the very beautiful burger.
"Did it go well?" I asked biting into the burger.
"Yea. Hey you're eating my burger." He said and I stopped chewing.
"Oh my God I'm sorry. Here." I gave it to him.
"It's okay we can split it." He said taking a bite and handed it back to me.
"You don't have to." I said opening the other box that had a few pizza slices. "I love pizza." I said taking up one of the slices.
"So do I so we have to share this evenly." He said taking another bite of the burger.
"Okay I still want burger and you want pizza so we split it." I said.
"I've been saying that." He said smiling.
"Whatever give me the burger." I took it from him our fingers brushing and our eyes meeting and all had stopped then he looked away and drank his liquid. We watched each other from the corner of our eyes eating in silence passing the burger until it was gone.
"Are you full?" he asked.
"Yes thanks. Are you?" I asked.
"I'm okay." He answered finishing his liquid.
"Thank you this was nice." I rested my head on his shoulder and he stiffened and I pulled it away. "Sorry." I whispered and held my hands.
"It's okay it just caught me off guard." He said. "Would you say we are friends?" he asked looking at me with a smile.
