Chapter 16

This time I was an adult about it and he did it when he was drunk so I doubt he will even remember last night. I got Mazey-Ann ready for school. She had a lot of questions about the red spots on my neck.

"Aunt Kasey what are those red mark?" She continued questioning me as I made her cereal.

"I don't know Mazey, hurry up or you'll be late." I told her.

"Morning Eric." She said happily.

"Morning Maze." He said. "Morning Kase." He said towards me and I turned to him.

"Morning Eric. Would you like some cereal?" I asked him.

"No I'm not hungry." He answered. "But some orange juice would be nice." I gave him a glass of orange juice and ate a slice of cold pizza.

"Eric I think a bug bit Aunt Kasey." She said swinging her feet and spinning on the stool.

"Why do you say that?" He asked.

"She has a lot of red spots on her neck." She pointed at me neck and he looked and smiled. Well I'm the only person that has amnesia when they are hung-over.

"I'll have to examine those bug bites Kasey." He said to me and Mazey-Ann shook her head in agreement.

"Yes and get her some bug spray. Bad bugs." She was so cute.

"Alright Little Butterfly it's time for school." I said taking up her lunch kit and bag pack. She opened the door and Eric followed me to the driveway.

"When you get back I'll have to take a look at those 'bug bites'." He teased and I blushed bright red.

"Aunt Kasey hurry up." Mazey yelled. I scurried away from him blushing all the way to Mazey's school. Like always she wanted me to come to her class with her. I used my hair to cover my neck and walked with her, the other parents were gathered on the corridor seeing their children off.

"Have a great day Mazey." I kissed her as she hurried to go talk to her friends.

"Ms. Gold?" Someone question.

"Yes." I answered.

"The resemblance is shocking." The woman looked over at Mazey then back at me.

"People say that a lot." I smiled at her.

"Hi I'm Patrice Saunders my daughter is Clementine." She pointed at the little girl who was talking Mazey's ear off.

"She's adorable."

"Thank you. Anyways it seems our daughters are best friends and Clementine wants to have a sleepover but she says Mazey-Ann has to come." She smiled.

"A sleepover." I said. "Won't having so many little girls at your house be crazy?" I asked.

"Having one drives me nuts." She joked. "But I'll have nannies around to help out and I really want Mazey-Ann to come, well Clementine is adamant." She said.

"I'll have to ask Mazey if she wants to sleep at Clementine's for the night." I told her.

"Thank you." She sighed in relief.

"Yep." I said. I watched Mazey a little while longer before leaving. I had to go grocery shopping which took half my morning. When I pulled up in the drive way a few cars were already there. I wonder what's happening, I called inside.

"Hello." A woman's voice picked up the phone.

"May I speak with Eric Heart please?" I asked. There was a shuffle and then he cleared his throat.
