Chapter 7

"How was school?" I asked Mazey.

"It was okay." She shrugged.

"Didn't you have fun?" I asked.

"Yes but I'm really sleepy." She yawned.

"Rose is coming to pick you up." I told her.

"But you said we'd eat candy tonight." She looked at me and I felt like I had betrayed her.

"I am coming home to eat candy but I'll be a little late." I said.

"Okay, I guess." She sighed. I waited at the receptionist with her for Rose who came in with her daughter Maria.

"Hi Rose." I greeted the lady.

"Hello Ms. Gold." She said.

"She wants to sleep so she just needs a bath. I already gave her dinner." I said. Her dinner for most nights was food from the cafeteria. "I might be late." I told her.

"I understand." She shook her head and lift Mazey who was half asleep.

"Thank you." I kissed Mazey before Rose left with her. I watched them walk out the hospital and sighed. My phone rang and I answered. "Hello?" I answered.

"Are you getting ready?" She asked.

"I am." I said walking to the locker for my clothes.

"Liar I can see you." I turned around and I saw her walking towards me and we hung up.

"I was just going to get my dress." I said.

"Hurry we are meeting them at the restaurant." She pushed me forward.

"Cool." We were at the locker room and I took out my dress and left. I had things to do on my ward and I had my own office and a shower. I did my last rounds making sure all was well and that the night shift knew to call me if anything went wrong.

I closed the blinds in my office and went into the shower. I came out in a towel I had here in case of emergency. I brushed my hair and made it fall in it's natural curls and then I put on my undergarments then I shimmed into the dress. I had only tired it on once and that was Christmas but it still fitted okay. I looked in the mirror at the dress it was nice with a strap running from my left to right shoulder and meeting at the back. I put on red heels and a red clutched. For my makeup I had on eyeliner mascara and nude lip gloss. I was ready. I looked at my phone Trish was calling again.

"Trish I'm ready." I answered before she could ask.

"I'm at your office let's go." She said.

"Okay." I opened the door and she looked at me and smiled.

"You look great." She said.

"Thanks, you too." Her dress was red with a white belt.

"If we don't leave we are going to be late." She said.

"Story of my life." I said and closed the door as we left. We walked together and people stared at us and I felt a little weird but I smiled. We were at the front when I saw Dr. Heart looking really great in a suit.

"Hi Dr. Gold you look lovely tonight." He said looking me over.

"Thank you. You look nice too." I said.

"I thought you had plans with your niece." He said.

"I did." I said.

"But I got her a date." Trish who had been eyeing the exchange said.

"Really? Lucky guy." He said and I thought I saw something but in a flash his smile was on again.

"Do you have a date?" Trish asked and I was afraid of his answer.
