It had been thousands of years since I was cursed. I watched everything change around me and somehow I ended up in a place called America. The forest I called home now had been untouched for centuries until a few years ago a small town appeared out of nowhere. The humans were too afraid to come to the heart of the woods where I had made my .
I was more scared of them than they were of me as I knew what would happen if they got too close to us- me and the beast I am cursed to with forever. I had spent a few centuries hunting down Tamra but every time I thought I was to finding her all traces of her were blown away like smoke era blown away by the wind.
I ha stuck around long enough to see the downfall of the Roman Empire, I had seen the first World War and seen the conquest of North America. I saw the Revolution and then the Native Americans get drove off. The Native American shamans could feel the dark energy in me and made sure their people stayed their distance.
The good part of me always tried to warn them by giving a long terrifying howl to scare them off which unfortunately for the human part of me was not good. The beast loved it when my attempts to keep people away from us failed and made sure to make anything he did extra gruesome and drawn out to make me suffer while I was forced to watch.
During the blue moons the human in me was stronger than the beast and I could change back into my human form and get farther way from civilization while during the blood moons the beast was stronger and would turn into an even bigger and stronger form than we already were.
I tried to keep out of his way as much as possible and my human consciousness only stirred when something big was happening.
My thousands year old war inside my head changed when she arrived.
I just happened to be in more control that day than Damien. (Damien is the name I came up with for the beastly side of me.) I was Adam again but I wasn't able to shift our form from a giant wolf to a human to leave. Our ears pricked up at the sound of a girl calling for help. Damien seemed pleased but I was filled with dread.
"Somebody help! Help me!" The girl continued to scream. We jumped up and ran towards the sound, both sides of me were trying to get to the girl for different reasons. I threw us onto the wolf attacking the girl and rolled with our claws in its shoulders, successfully getting it off her.
The wolf was no match for us and in seconds the wolf ran off. I stood there huffing and the girl scrambled away in fear. Damien the other side of me was fighting me, trying to take control so he could do god knows what to the poor girl. I squeezed our eyelids shut tightly as I struggled against him.
I heard the girl gasp beside me and slowly opened my eyelids. I made slow movements in everything I did in fear that Damien might secretly be letting me have control so he could take it when I had my guard down.
She watched my movements closely and after a time slowly reached her hand up and brushed something off my face, a tear.
She looked at her thumb which had the tear on it before wiping her own eyes. She wiped her nose and I carefully stepped forward, she let out a whimper but stopped when I sniffed her neck where the wolf had grabbed her. I slowly circled her as I sniffed every inch of her before Damien pushed past the boundaries I had put up around him.
I panicked unable to move us away from her but instead of attacking the girl who sat in front of us he started tending to her wounds. He licked her neck in slow gentle movements and I was stunned at his gentleness, I knew what he was doing because for a time we had lived with a pack of wolves in Canada.
Damien was capable of speech every once and a while, surprisingly he was kinder when not in the presence of humans or nearby them, it was the curse that made him so mean and terrifying. He had about as much dislike of Tamra the witch who did this to us as I did.
I could tell the girl was cold, she looked to be about 16 or 17, she had long brunette hair and pale skin. Her eyes were a light blue, she would run right now I was guessing if it wasn't for her ankle, when I was sniffing her I could tell it was sprained.
Suddenly Damien grabbed her arm and I pounded against his barriers around me but then I noticed she wasn't screaming and there wasn't any blood in our mouth. Damien was trying to put her on our back and I think she understood for she grabbed two fist fils of our black fur and wrapped her legs around us tightly.
"Should we take her back home or to the other humans?" I heard Damien say in our head, his words echoed and I stopped for a minute from my mental pacing to think.
"Is that really a good idea? What if the curse take over you? You know I can't stop you when it does, unless you plan on caging yourself inside my consciousness until she's well enough for us to lead her to the other humans." I told him.
Suddenly I felt Damien become smaller, his presence no longer surrounded me, instead I felt barriers go up as he retreated inside my consciousness and he locked himself behind the strongest barriers he could . This is what happened when the curse took over only it was usually me inside the cage and not him so this was new to both of us but Damien didn't seem bothered.
My legs pumped as I carried the girl back to our cave. I immediately regretted this as I realized that bones were strewn everywhere, Damien and I needed to pick things up more. I felt her cringe and smelled her fear as we passed by some human skulls. I lay down and rolled slightly into my side and she slid off my back into the moss bed that I in at night. I sniffed her again, this time to memorize her scent before leaving.
By the time I returned the moon was high in the sky and a heavy rain had fallen, fog swirled around my paws and lighting lit the midnight sky every few seconds. The thunder was loud to my sensitive ears but I ignored it as I drug the moose I had caught to the cave.
The girl shrieked and jumped when I entered, I was confused at first but then I remembered that humans can't see like I can. I ran out and grabbed some sticks, they were wet and if she knew how to make a fire it wouldn't work well but I had to try something.
I came back with a mouth full of sticks and then remembered there was some dry ones in the corner of the cave. I picked them up and carried them to her. She had lit a stick of fire, I had learned over the years that this was called a match and she set it on the dry sticks. The fire leaped and I jumped back thinking I was back at Tamra's cottage.
I let out a howl as fear consumed me and Damien. My vision swirled and I stumbled Damien tried to help keep our balance but to no avail and we collapsed on our side.
