She was asleep but definitely not peaceful. Her eyes were closed and moonlight bounced in waves off her skin. He woke up suddenly as she kicked him. She started gasping and her movements became jerkier. Carefully, he reached out a hand towards her. She grasped it, tightly, her breathing becoming more even. He watched her fall back asleep, his heart softening.
