chapter 17

Veronica was the first one to wake up, and to say she was surprised would be an understatement.

At first she couldn't recall where she was, as she looked around confused she realised she had slept over at jughead's place.
What surprised her more was the hand that was placed on her stomach. She was about to shout when she turned and saw jughead peacefully sleeping beside her. She was shocked and felt paralysed for a moment. Not only did she sleep over, she slept with jug on the same bed. She blushed so hard, that literally if anyone was present, they would be questioning her face becoming a tomato. As she calmed her senses down, she slowly, but gently picked up his hand, careful as to not wake him up and gently placed his hand on the bed. She got up and noticed jughead moving his hand around as if, searching for her and she smiled.

She placed a pillow underneath his arm and saw him snuggling with it and was awed at how cute the scene was before her eyes. She knew she had to leave before be got up, otherwise things would become awkward to say the least, so she quietly left and walked to pops.

While walking she allowed herself to think, about what happened. Yes they hadn't done anything wrong, but they crashed together.
How will they explain this to betty and archie? How would she explain to archie that his girlfriend was in bed with his best friend but had done nothing wrong?

But then she thought, just as she trusts archie, he should also trust her. He should trust her enough that she wouldn't cheat on him. He knows she hates cheaters, especially after her dad cheated her on the pops deeds.

She reached pops and quickly went downstairs, to freshen up and get dressed.

Jughead woke up alone. He was surprised that Veronica wasn't there. But he figured it was for the best. He didn't know how he would face her. He looked down and smiled when he realised Veronica put a pillow underneath his hands.

Jughead wasn't worried though, about what betty would think, he knew she would understand that they were tired and didn't realise when they dozed off. And plus betty knew he would never cheat on her. He isn't that kind of person who will betray his close ones. He was faithful, just like she was

He freshened up and got on his bike to head to pops and was surprised yet again to see Veronica there.

"Veronica. What are you doing here?"

"Oh i was just here to have breakfast"

"Veronica you could have it at home. We had a long night, you must be tired, i presumed u left, so u could go home and rest"

"No. I just freshened up and came here." she said stammering.

Now he knew she was lying.

"Veronica, don't think i haven't noticed that you've been lying alot"

"Im not lying"

"Save it. You can tell me you know" he smiled gently at her

She gulped "fine. To be honest, things aren't good at home. My mom, she can't stop grieving about dad, that she doesn't even get out of her room, and i really am losing my patience with her, so i like to avoid staying there for as long as possible. Its not like she notices anyway" her tone was filled with sadness, even though this wasn't the whole truth, it was in the end partly true.
She doesn't want to tell him, that not only her mom is grieving, she has become an alcoholic and a drug addict, and that things had become so bad that had to leave and stay at pops. She doesn't want people to think of her as a burden, that after knowing her condition, offering her a place to stay. She was stubborn this way.

Jughead nodded and he felt sad about how Veronica was handling things."does betty know?"

"No. No one knows. Well except you. I had to fake a letter saying that my mom needs time to get back at being a mayor."

"Why didn't you tell anyone Veronica?"

"It wasn't important" she shrugged

"It wasn't important? How can u say that Ronnie? Of course its important. Its your mother! Your only legal guardian."

"Till im 18. I think i can get through it" she shrugged again

"Its a long time till then Ronnie"

The 2nd time. The 2nd time he called her Ronnie. Why does it feels like there are butterflies in my stomach? Veronica thought

"Look I'll manage. Im pretty sure she'll get better. And i have you guys. So im fine" she smiled

"You're right about one thing. You do have me."

She grinned "so, how are we going to tell Betty and archie that we crashed together?

He shrugged nonchalantly"anyway u want, i was thinking when we sit on the student lounge, its not like we did anything wrong?"

Veronica nodded. "Im hungry lets eat"

"As you wish princess"
