"well we are roommates now"
"Well, trailer mates" she corrected herself as she sat on the couch in his trailer"Who would have guessed, us staying together, let alone be in a single place together for more than 5 minutes?" Jughead retorted
"I could" Veronica said as she surprised him with her revelation.
"How could you have anticipated this? We never got along at first" jughead asked
She shrugged. She couldn't explain this feeling. It was always there. Ever since she first laid eyes on him, yes they were always at each other's head, but did she ever really dislike him? Probably not. "Coz we're the same" she said
He furrowed his eyebrows, thinking to what she actually meant by those particular words. Yeah, they have similarities, but they're different, so different from each other. "How?" He questioned as he sat down beside her looking at her.
"Ignoring their infidelity for now, but archie and betty were literally our own friends. Just like you, they were my best friends as well"
"Wrong. They were my best friends, my only friends. You, on the other hand, had the whole school dancing around your fingers" he counteracted
"Keeping that aside, betty and archie were the only people i trusted and let them be close to me. I mean, they were the light through which we hid our darkness"
He nodded "okay other than that, we were totally different"
He backtracked at that. That wasn't the only thing similar. They both were sarcastic, clever, argumentative, stubborn, heck even their nature was similar. How couldn't he have seen this before?
How was he so blind that he never saw all these similarities between them?"Were we now? All those movie references, books, we always shared that in common. Other than the fact that I was raised in a rich background we actually are the same" she said as she smiled.
"Fine. But I don't get what you're trying to explain here." He said giving up arguing. It was futile.
"Just that, if we didn't have Archie and betty, who would we have been anyway? At that time, i just focused on making them happy, but now? I just keep wondering, what would we have been without them in our lives?"
Jughead was quiet. He had no answer. Because there was no answer to her question. He himself couldn't even imagine a world where archie and betty weren't his friends. That's why this was so painful for them. They both had made their whole lives centre around those 2 people, and without them, it was like they had lost their purpose.
They were just 2 teenagers who felt lost. After all, losing a good friend is not easy, especially when you don't understand why you lost them in the first place. They couldn't understand what went wrong.
"Do you think, do you think that what if we never met them, would we have turned out different? Happy?" Jughead questioned after a moment of silence.
His mind was racing, with all the different answers, the good and the bad.
"Different? Probably. But I don't really know about being happy. If not with betty, i would have ended up as a Cheryl minion." She grimaced at that thought
"I would have probably been a loner, who had no empathy and hated everyone" he added
They both looked at each other then. Knowing that probably, if they hadn't had betty and archie in their life wasn't a bad thing, but that had taken its course. They no longer needed them to show them the right path.
"Even after understanding that archie and betty were the reason i was able to reform, i cant find it in my heart to forgive them" Veronica said
He nodded. " I have known then since childhood you know, i probably understand them better than themselves, and ever since i was a kid i knew, that those two had a special bond. But even after knowing that I can't forgive them"
Jughead realised something today. That he could talk to Veronica about this. She wouldn't judge him. She wouldn't correct him. She would understand his position just like he does with her. She would listen to him, just like he would listen to her. He didn't need to keep everything bottled in. And that helped.
He got up and sighed "i think it's time to call it a night, what about you?"
She looked up at him and nodded "ill take the couch. You head in"
He looked at her baffled. As if. He wouldn't let her sleep uncomfortably on a couch. "You're taking the bed, im taking the couch" he said with his arms crossed
"Oh please, this is your place. The bed is yours"
"Exactly this place is mine. So my house, my rules"
She scoffed. No way was she backing down. She looked at him adamantly "wait, what about your dad's room?"
He looked at her embarrassingly. "His room is…. inmanageable" he said looking down
"What do you mean?" She questioned as she got up to check.
She stopped as she felt jugheads hand around her wrist
So she curiously looked at him"Uh…. You don't want to go in there" jughead said
"Jughead stop being cryptic. You tell me why otherwise im heading in"
"Why have you got to be so stubborn?" He said frustrated
"Jughead"
"Fine. The rooms filled with the things i meant to throw out, but didn't"
"What?" She said as she shook his hand away and went to the room opposite to jughead's room. She opened the door to see, all kinds of things present.
She was surprised to see so many items which were apparently of no use but still being kept.
"Oh my god! Jughead! You're a hoarder!" Veronica said laughing
"Im a what?" He said puzzled
"A hoarder. Someone who can't seem to throw anything!"
"Just because i haven't thrown these out, doesn't mean im a hoarder"
"Oh, it does jug!! You had so many chances to throw them out but you didn't! That proves my point!"
He quickly shut the door "enough of that. Go and take the bed, ill take the couch"
She shook her head "nope. You're taking the bed. And tomorrow i am helping you clear this mess out"
"I'll let you help me, if you take the bed" jughead said
"I'll take the bed, if we share it." Veronica said
"What?"
"There's no way i can take the bed without feeling guilty, so, we can share. Its not like we haven't shared a bed before. And we don't have anyone to answer to anymore"
"Veronica"
"Thats the final offer, otherwise im taking the couch" she said sternly.
He sighed. "You won't give up will you? Fine. We'll share the bed. Happy?"
"Ecstatic" Veronica said.
