"Betty" Veronica called out.
Betty who was walking ahead in the hallway, was surprised to hear Veronica calling her. She stopped and turned back to face her.
She looked shocked and couldn't hide the surprise from her voice "Veronica? What is it?"
Veronica, just looked at her and went towards her locker, Betty followed and stood next to her and asked again "is something wrong?"
"You remember? That day in pops, when we made a vow?" Veronica said
Betty looked pained. "Yes. I could never forget that."
"We agreed that we would never let a boy come between us again. But we let it happen" Veronica said
Betty looked sad. "I'm sorry, Veronica it's all my fault. Its because of me we couldn't keep our vow to each other"
"Betty, it didn't hurt that much knowing you and archie cheated on us. What hurt me was that my best friend, whom i cherish so much didn't tell me, you hid it from me" Veronica said
Betty looked down. Devastated. "I..i ..i just didn't want to hurt you. By not telling you, i thought i was protecting you from heartache, and i didn't want to lose you "
"But it hurt more betty. You still lost me. Betty, i could have handled it, if you told me what you were feeling. How could you think i would ever be happy when you weren't? When Archie didn't love me but you? How could i have been happy?" Veronica said
"I was an idiot Veronica. That's all i can say" betty said
"You were. How could you ever think that i would stand between your happiness? You were my best friend, i would do anything for you, even if it meant being heartbroken. How could you think that i wouldn't be your friend if you wanted to be with Archie?" Veronica said getting emotional.
"You hurt me more, by not sharing your feelings betty. I thought we told each other everything, so why couldn't you think you couldn't tell me? I would have understood betty" she added
"Veronica. I am so sorry. I was scared. I was scared of losing you, that i made a stupid choice that lead me away from you." Betty said as she shed a tear.
"I know you can't ever forget what happened, i understand, i just want you to know how sorry i am and that I don't deserve you and your friendship" betty said as she turned to go.
She was on her way when she heard Veronica say "i miss you B"
She was shocked to hear it and with a small smile she turned around and said " i miss you everyday V"
Veronica gave a small smile "you'll always talk to me right? No longer hide anything from me?" She asked
Betty had suddenly gotten a spark of hope. "Veronica, does this mean…?"
"I want you back in my life B. Too much is going on, i need someone there by my side. My best friend" Veronica said
Betty with tears in her eyes, ran towards Veronica and hugged her. "V, I'll always be by you, as long as you have me"
Veronica hugged back and smiled" betty, no more boy trouble okay?"
"Never. I'm so thankful you're giving me a second chance, i lost hope that we could ever be friends again" betty said
"Lets never let anyone come between our friendship" Veronica said
"Never" betty smiled as they walked together to their classes.
Betty was feeling so happy. Veronica forgave her! She has her best friend back! She was literally on cloud nine. Ahe felt hope build in herself that one day, jughead will also be able to forgive them.
"Do you forgive Archie too?" Betty asked Veronica
Veronica nodded. "I wanted my friends back"
Betty grinned. "Even though we don't deserve this, but I'm glad you forgave us"
Veronica smiled and looped her arm around Betty's. " B and V are back!"
Betty laughed. And waved each other off as they headed to their classes.
"So how did it go?" Jughead questioned Veronica as she sat beside him holding her hand.
She told him everything, and he smiled. "I am happy for you"
"I feel like a burden has been removed from my shoulders. Letting go of your insecurities, letting go of the things that make you sad, it helps. Im feeling free" Veronica said to him
He understood of course. That she was trying to make him forget trying to get him to forgive them "i get that Veronica. But that doesn't change anything for me. I was always a loner, you know that, the only 2 people that i ever confided in, my only friends were archie and betty. They went behind my back, betrayed my trust and pretended nothing was happening between them. How can i forget that? Veronica i have always had trust issues just like you, but unlike you, I don't have it in me to forgive and forget. I can forgive but i will never be able to forget their betrayal for the rest of my life."
"You're saying as if, if they didn't betray you, you still would have betty. Is that what you're saying?" Veronica said hurt.
"No! That's not what I'm saying Veronica!! I'm talking about their friendship with me" he said frustrated.
"If they hadn't betrayed us, we wouldn't have gotten closer, we wouldn't have opened up to each other. We would have never happened jughead" Veronica said. She was hurt.
"There wasn't any friendship between you and betty, jughead, you were in a relationship." She added
Why wasn't she getting this? " Veronica, i get it that you forgave them, but why can't you understand that I can't forgive them?" He said annoyed.
"Because jughead, if you aren't able to let go of your anger towards them, we can't move ahead with our lives! They will always be path blockers in our journey! I know you can't forgive them now, I'm not asking you to, but someday you will have to. If not, I will always think, that the reason you're not able to forget, is because somewhere you still have feelings for her. And no matter what, what you say it won't change the fact that somewhere there's still a piece of your heart that will belong to betty" Veronica said
Jughead was getting angry and annoyed. Why was she forcing her decisions on him? "That's because she will always be in my Heart Veronica! I have always loved betty!" He whisper shouted.
"Okay" Veronica said deeply hurt by his words.
"What about me then?" She added with so much pain in her voice that it shook jughead back to his senses
He just realised what he said. And he was horrified by what he said. "Veronica, i….I didn't mean that!"
She looked at him with tears in her eyes and got up.
"Veronica please listen to me..i " he started but she ran out of the class.
He face palmed. What did he just do?
