chapter 36

Jughead looked horrified at what had happened.
How could he have let this happen? He thought
He looked at Veronica who was looking down confused.

"This wouldn't have happened if u hadn't shown up at the white wyrm" he said

"Oh yeah? This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't decided to break your promise to me and gotten drunk" Veronica answered back

He sighed. "Im sorry. I am not thinking straight"

She nodded "what now?"

"I don't know."

"Jughead was this a mistake?" Veronica questioned him

He didn't know what to say the question. He just looked at her.

"You still love betty don't you?" Veronica questioned with sadness in her voice

He couldn't mutter up his strength to answer that question so just looked down

"I see. Im sorry then. " Veronica said as she got off the bed with sheets wrapped around her and took her clothes

She turned back to him "or is it that you don't want to let her go?" She questioned him

Still he didn't say anything.

She continued "we'll forget this even happened between us. Everything can go back to normal"

"Can it?" He finally questioned

"Yes. I don't know. But there's no option" with that she left the room.

Veronica didn't know why she felt sad with how jughead reacted. Its not like she liked him or anything. Even though ahe was drunk when it happened, she didn't regret it. But jughead did. That shattered her heart. Did she start to like him more than a friend?

She sighed as she went to her room. She freshened up, and decided to head to school alone. She needed some alone time to clear her thoughts.

Jughead on the other hand refused to acknowledge his feelings. He just couldn't believe he slept with Veronica. He didn't know what to do or think anymore. He loved betty. Did he? He silently questioned. But shook his head. Just like Veronica said he didn't want to let go of her. She had become his safety blanket even though she had betrayed him.

He freshened up and got ready and called Veronica. She didn't answer so left his room to go to hers.

"Veronica, we're late. We have to go to school"  he said

Still no reply. He opened the door to see the room empty. Did she leave already? Why didn't she wait?

He closed her door, and soon left on his bike to school.

He went into the hallway and saw toni he went to her and asked "hey toni, did u see Veronica?"

"No. What's wrong? I thought she comes with you"

"Not today. I'll see you later" jughead said.

He couldn't find her anywhere. As he sat in the class alone, he realised she had decided to not show up today.

Veronica absentmindedly walked towards the pembrooke, her old home. She missed it. She missed her mother.

She went inside to find everything clean and tidy. She rushed to her mother's room to see her sitting on the bed reading some documents.

"Mom?"

Hermione looked up and smiled "Veronica!" She got up and rushed to hug her daughter. She missed her.

"You're… you're…." Veronica wasn't able to complete her sentence

"Yeah im sober" Hermione laughed

"But how?" Veronica questioned her mother still hugging her.

Hermione pulled out of the hug and looked at her daughter "the last time you came, you told me you didn't have a mother anymore. That really hurt me and it made me realise how shitty I was acting towards you. So i decided to go clean, it took time, but here i am. I have even taken back the role of mayor. I know what you did Veronica. Thank you mija" she smiled at her daughter who was looking so happy.

"You can come back now" her mother added

That got Veronica out if her happy state. Come back to the pembrooke?
Her mother saw her confusion and smiled. "Its your choice mija. I know how you love independence and getting out of here gave you that. But promise you'll come visit?" Her mother asked hopefully

"I will mom. I sure will" Veronica had almost forgotten the mornings events. But she decided to forget about it for now. Her mom was alright!

"So mija, hows archie?"

Hermione saw her daughter stiffen and saw her expression turn cold

"He's…fine mom"

"What happened mija?"

"He cheated on me with betty"

"Oh god, i am so sorry mija. It must have broken your heart"

She nodded with tears in her eyes. Hermione pulled her daughter for a hug and Veronica cried and told her everything.

Sometimes, all a girl needs is her mother.

"I have been staying with jughead now, and mom i think i have started to like him"

Hermione smiled. "That's good Veronica"

"He is still in love with betty"

Her mother looked at Veronica and questioned "so you're going to give up that easily?"

"But mom…"

"No mija. Have you forgotten this family's motto what a lodge want, a lodge gets. Make him realise your worth Veronica. Coz any guy will be lucky to have you"

Veronica nodded.

She spent the whole day with her and finally decided to call it a day and left to go back to the trailer.

Jughead was worried. She wasn't in school, she wasn't at pops he checked everywhere. She was alright right? He thought.

He was pacing around when he heard the knob turn.
He saw Veronica come in with a smile on her face. She had this glow of happiness around her

"Veronica where were you? I looked for you everywhere! Do you know how worried i was?" He shouted at her startling her

"You were worried?" She questioned

He looked at her as if she was crazy " of course i was worried! You didn't tell me where you were going-" he cut off when Veronica suddenly hugged him.

He slowly placed his arms around her hugging her back. She was safe. She wasn't hurt and she came back. He was relieved.

"I went to the pembrooke. I saw my mom" Veronica said

"How is she?"

"She's clean! She said she wanted to be a good mother to me" he could feel her happiness.

He smiled "that's great!"

"Yeah and she said i could move back in"

He stiffened. He didn't want her to leave.

"What? What did u say?"

Veronica smiled. She felt him stiffen under her touch. She patted his back" dont worry jughead i am not going anywhere"
She felt him relax and  felt a surge of happiness. Maybe he likes her but doesn't know it yet.

Jughead calmed down when her heard Veronica say she wasn't going anywhere. Thats a relief.

Wait. Why did he care if she left or not? He thought as he started to question his feelings towards the raven haired girl in his arms.
