chapter 37

Jughead wanted to talk about what happened the day before, but he was too scared of her leaving him after the talk, especially now that she has reconciled with her mother. He didn't dare ask himself why was he so opposed to the idea of Veronica leaving him. He had gotten used to her presence. That's what he says to make himself believe, but even he knew deep down, it was a stretch.

He decided not to talk about it. But Veronica had other ideas. She wanted to know. She wanted to know, to understand if there could be a possible future for them.

"Jughead about last night" Veronica started

Jughead's face paled. " We said we'll forget about it"

"I did. But i changed my mind. How can we just ignore what happened between us? We can't go ahead just ignoring this ever happened. I know I can't" Veronica said

"Whats there to talk about anyway? We both were drunk , we had our heart broken by our best friends, and we found solace in each other. It doesn't need to mean any more than that" jughead said

"Thats all it was? Finding comfort in each other's arms? Nothing else?" Veronica said

He nodded. He was lying though, there was something between them.

He saw her face crumple, and he knew, he knew he made a mistake.

"Okay." She said lowly

"I'm going to bed now" she said as she turned back and went inside her room.

Jughead dejectedly sat on the couch with his fave in his hands. Veronica was right. They can't ignore what happened between them. He never wanted to hurt her. But he did. His actions did. He even broke the promise he made to her, even after knowing how she felt about alcoholics. But still she was beside him.

He needed time to figure out his feelings. Why wasn't he ready to let go of betty? The girl who had captured his heart only to break it in the end?  was it because of the nagging feeling in his head that said if things didn't work out with betty, it won't wont with anyone else? Or the fact that he lost faith in relationships after the betrayal by his best friends? Or he just didn't want to put himself in a situation of getting hurt again?

How could he explain what he's feeling to Veronica when he doesn't understand himself?  There were so many reasons, so many answers to the 1 question she asked.

Veronica was sad. She just tried to put herself out there, with jughead, but he just plainly said it wasn't anything else. They were just finding comfort within each other.

Why was she trying anyway? Did she really start to have feelings for jughead? She wants to confront her feelings, but at the same she feels that jughead is running away from his feelings. This is probably the reason why she's still here. She wants to know how he feels when he is ready to confront his feelings.

She knows jughead doesn't want her to leave. That means something right? She thought

The next day, they pretended everything was normal. Yet it wasn't. From the inside, they were freaking out.

Veronica tugged at her hair absentmindedly, when kevin suddenly sat beside her.

"Whats worrying you V?" He asked

"Oh nothing" she replied

"No. There's something you aren't telling me"

She sighed. She knew Kevin would not leave her alone if she didn't tell what was happening with her.

"Its jughead"
."what? Is he alright? Did something happen?"

"He's alright. Its just…something happened between us"

"Seriously like what?" Kevin said as his ears perked up

"Promise me you won't tell anyone?  No one can know what i am telling you"

"Promise"

"Me and jughead slept together"

Kevin blinked. Once. Twice. And then opened his mouth as if to say something but he didn't know what to say.
. finally he got out" WHAT?"

"We were drunk"

"Oh my god tell me everything"

And she did. And to be frank telling someone helped.
Kevin nodded and looked at her and said " jeronica is rising!"

"Excuse me what now?"

"Jeronica, your ship name. Or do you like vughead?" He said as he teased her

"Kevin!!! He doesn't like me anyway"

"Oh give it time princess"

She was surprised when she heard him call her princess. Only jughead called her that.

"Or is it queen now huh Veronica?" He teased

She knew it! He was teasing her about jughead! "Kevin!!"

He laughed "but seriously though, jughead is probably scared to get hurt again, so he isn't letting anyone get close to him, so that's probably why he is pushing you away"

She thought about what he said. He could be right. She decided to confront jughead with this question when she suddenly got a text from her mother

"Come home asap. Its urgent"
