tucked behind heavy lungs
until someone
sang a beat into you
with sacred breath
and now you've taken a vengeance
on me
for years of quiet solitude
in captivity
and now i know what happens
to a heart left unmoving
when it is flushed to life
and left behind
with no one to beat a rhythm to
well, i'm a tough audience
and lonely company
